Just imagine they used the original/smaller font on these versions.

What went wrong here is the thinner bezel.. thus it makes the watch look disproportionately large.. it happened to the 1815 too, when ALS reduced the size from 40 to 38.5.. Thinning out the bezel can really ruin the look in my opinion.

...when they made the case bigger but kept the smaller movement, they needed to get creative by 'hiding' it with Breguet numerals around the outside of the dial. It has never looked as cohesive as a 3940 or even 5140 to me...

I find it quite strange how this reference makes me feel because on paper everything seems right and, as you say, one wants to love it, but something feels odd nonetheless. And it definitely has something to do with the case being too large for the caliber.

They had me at the breguet numerals. I love the leaf hands and hollow lugs. And the size is more modern. The WG blue dial one is my favorite.

I personally keep oscillating between ‘I love it’ and ‘it feels a bit odd’. I think trying a full set of Breguet numerals (except the 6) was a good idea, but the dial feels a bit crowded and the case a bit large. I would really need to see it in real life.

And you really know this piece because you own and wear it, whereas I've never seen one in real life: so my opinion is simply meaningless compared to yours.

My problem is that I haven't seen one yet in real life and that judging from photos can be very misleading.
So I'm glad that you (and a few others) love this watch so much: there's no doubt that I will try one on during my next visit to a PP Salon.

What is the general consensus of this vs 3940? I love the design of 3940 but it feels a bit small. This is better proportioned and still carries some classic design.🙏🙏🙏

and of the scalloped lugs of the case, but many find the 39 mm too large for the 240 caliber and consider including Breguet numerals was a way of hiding this gap between the movement and the case. Having not had the chance to try it on, I don’t know how I would feel, but having a wrist on the smaller side, the 3940 would probably fit me better.

The Roman numerals reference is similar to 5327 despite the fact that it’s 36mm. 5740 has the 240 movement and is proportional despite its larger size. So it’s interesting that 5327 is sort of singled out here. Perhaps it’s the design. Either way, it’s super interesting perspectives on a variation of the same movement (which is my favorite Patek movement btw).

whereas the 5327 has only no 6: the case being larger, the dial can and does include a 3 and a 9.

And some say that these Breguet numerals were meant to "hide" the fact that a 39 mm case is a bit too large for the 240 caliber, which is also used on the 36 mm ref. 3940, for example.

But in my eyes the 5327 is oversized and a bit out of proportion. Only 3940, 5040 and 5940 have a date ring with similar sized numerals. But only the date numerals of the 5940 have this beautiful romantic typeface. In combination with the breguet hour numerals just the perfect match 😍 Sorry, I'm biased. But I really love these details!
