5164R is still my favorite Aquanaut.
The 42 mm diameter models are too big for my taste. The travel time complication of 5164 is very useful and easy to use. Originally, I wanted a 5164A but when I saw the R, I was smitten. The R case in combination with the chocolate brown dial is awesome. And because of the brown dial and strap, it’s not too flashy.
You inspired me to wear mine tonight for a meal with the family!
We tried a local Italian here in the southern hemisphere. The food was average at best. But I definitely enjoyed the company of the 5726.
👍 I really like its proportions. It’s somewhere between 5711/5712 and 5980/5990, which is perfect for a sporty watch IMO.
Having been lucky enough to wear both on the wrist,
I can agree with you that the 5726 is “fine” in its thickness wrt the 5711/12; though it is a different feel on the wrist. I ultimately chose the 5726 for its central seconds and easier to read date indication over the 12.
I am with you in loving the 5726/1A. Not only that, at the risk of committing heresy and getting banned from the Forum😂, I would rather own the 5726 than 5740G. Why?
Pluses for 5726: 1) stainless steel, perfect for a sports/sporty watch 2) continuous motion on the dial via the sweep seconds 3) the annual calendar is a great complication. similar to a perpetual and no big deal to set it manually one day a year 4) little more than a third the price of 5740
Pluses for 5740: 1) a full perpetual with the legendary 240Q movement 2) ultra thin case 3) spectacular blue hue to the dial which I prefer to the 5726 blue
Now let’s make it apples to apples. Let’s say the 5740 was in stainless steel and let’s say it was double the price of 5726, I would definitely prefer the 5740/1A. Full perpetual, spectacular dial and ultra thin. But I can’t see them ever making this in steel … but I have been wrong before. Would love to be wrong again 😊 Best, Patekova

I agree on most counts. As far as sports or sporty watches are concerned, ultra thin isn’t a major consideration for me. I rather like it when the case has some substance (not beyond 12-13 mm though).

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, they are very very different but both are excellent in their own way. I would think at some future date they would have to do a steel version
of 5811 although probably they will have mixed feelings about doing that, particularly after all the secondary market craziness with 5711. I also suspect they will do a RG version of 5740 which I think will be exceptionally attractive and highly sought after.
I am biased towards “white” metal as they tend to go under the radar…
That said, the 5740 in rose will be one attractive watch I’d agree. The demand will be next level.
As for the 5811, I saw one at an exhibition and tried it on. It is very elegant but quite sizeable. The 1mm makes a difference 😁😁
