That was my goal
I'm glad you like it. The splash of color, pebbly texture, and the stitching definitely dress it down compared to the typical strap you see paired with this reference (as you well know). While I like beautiful croc straps, I also like to dress my formal watches down to make them more wearable with my current work attire. It's actually dressed up from the last strap, which was a casual tan leather strap that you would typically expect on a Panerai or pilot watch, not a Patek.
Have you tried casual straps on your 3970G?
In full agreement, this strap does indeed make the watch much more versatile, and lends itself really well to be worn casually…Not a 3970 owner myself, but here’s my next flashy yellow strap (I’ll pick it up during Christmas in Italy) for the 5088…😉👍

My wife thinks some of my tastes in watches and straps border on hideous (in particular the blue salmon strap for my FPJ CS), so I'm used to critical reviews.
I can see that
It looked better in my mind than on my wrist. I'd rate it a B- combination. The 19 mm width makes it difficult to use on any of my other watches.
I absolutely LOVE 3970 in second series
The nice vintage look of the baton markers and leaf hands with a waterproof screwed case back, the best of two worlds for me between the first series snap case back and the more modern hands and markers of later series. And on top of that in R version it is gorgeously awesome and awesomely gorgeous 😉👍👌💪💪👏👏.

As for the strap I fully share your approach of dressing down a very classy watch and I also agree with the rose gold case + green strap combo but I am not sure about this green and texture. I made another choice with also the same complication and case colour but a more classic texture (alligator) and more fancy green… it works well imho not formal at all yet classy…
