Patek April 2021 novelties and an un-announced limited edition Calatrava 5298P ???
Went down with my wife earlier to view the new Patek novelties ... the 5711A/1300A was surprising good looking and paired well with the olive green dial. New unisex 4947/1A was also quite attractive with a very nice shade of dark blue with textured horizontal and vertical brushings. Had the new “butterfly” double clasp which I find most practical. The 5990R was bad boy stunning. The blue dial on the 4947/1A I thought was a nicer shade though. Again happy to see it upgraded with the new double clasp. Both 6119G and 6119R were nice and wore comfortably. Interesting Patek showed me another watch which was just launched but not public announced (yet?), a limited edition Calatrava 5298P with a dazzling bezel of baguette diamonds.

The texture on the annual calendar 4947 is indeed very interesting. Has this pattern appeared on others previously?

Yes the vertical and horizontal cross brushings, as well as the deeper shade of blue on the 4947 is really quite nice and I have not seen it in other Pateks before.
Patek calls it a "Shantung" effect. I guess they are referring to the Chinese brush effect in lacquered Chinese furniture. The olive green of the 5711 is similar to the shade of the blue in the previous 5711A ... I say similar in that it has a bit of a "dirty" or should I say "muddy" hue (for want of a better word to describe it). Like the previous 5711A reference with the blue dial, it is a chameleon and looks different in different light and angles. I have to admit that I am not a fan of the blue in the original 5711A. I think the blue of the 5740G and 5711P is much nicer ... but this is a personal preference. Having said all this I think the olive green actually looks nicer than the original blue of the 5711A in my eyes, and importantly my wife thinks so too, especially with baguette diamonds!
Yes agree it looks more like the textured Oxford effect than a Shantung silk texture, either way the overall effect is attractive and different from most dials

The Shantung effect is currently on the Ladies' 7300/1200R-010 and 7300/1201R-001.
It's nice, but personally, I find it quite feminine and can't wait for a 4947/1A with a dial that's decidedly more masculine.

I just looked up the Twenty-4 models you mentioned on the Patek website, and found it interesting that the dials are described as "vertical and horizontal satin-finished dial" vs "vertical and horizontal satin-finished dial ("shantung" finish)" for 4947. For some reasons, Patek did not mention this pattern when the Twenty-4s were rolled out.

It seems Singapore is much faster in receiving them than Europe.. The 5711 dial seems much more interesting in your photos than I have seen before. More dark and mysterious
Ah yes thank you ! ... "dark and mysterious" is the more appropriate way to describe the hue of the green or the blue dials of the 5711A (as opposed to my previous reply to Gordon using the description dirty/muddy)
As mentioned, the olive green dial is indeed a chameleon and I find my photos looking very different in different light and angles.
I guess as usual you need to register your interest with the salon or your AD and wait to see what happens

Thanks for sharing this -- I'm really happy the new models are already available, at least for viewing. The new 6119R is pretty stunning, and the more I see the /1300A, the more I love it....;-) Looking forward to seeing them *very* soon! ;-)
I wasn't aware of this 5298P limited edition, but in case it was created for a given market or a specific AD, it's not unusual special editions are not broadly advertised by Geneva...If I receive some information from Patek, I'll certainly share -- and please do the same if you learn more from your AD! ;-)

Thank you -- I'm by no means supposed to know all regular references (!), but if I have to guess chances are this 5298 LE is only available locally and for some particular celebration, as it's not part of the official 2021 roster (including LEs).
In any case, very beautiful alternative to the standard black-dialed version -- any interested collector should definitely query some local ADs! ;-) Cheers.

Yes, while both the G & R versions are attractive, the G is more modern, especially with its dial. Hope you love it in the metal too and looking forwards to some nice wrist shots of it on you

5298P is beautiful. Does it have the 324 SC movement or the new 26-330 SC movement?
I am afraid I did not enquire further on the 5298P as I was rather more distracted with the other pieces

Maybe and hopefully later this year more references will be released. Patek usually likes to keep a few surprises peppered throughout the year ( to sustain interest and suspense??? )
