Hi, I am thinking about getting this watch. Pricey at around 145k. Would really like to get the opinions from this esteemed group. What's good, bad, why would you buy this, why not. I truly appreciate your input.

Split opinion here.
For me:
Cons: stones instead of indexes and the engraving on the dial (even though they are not too loud, so they are still acceptable), white gold case, current price.
Conclusion: I'm still hoping for a 5976 in steel and with the usual blue dial they use for steel versions. I'd definitely prefer this over the white gold version. If PP doesn't release a steel version, I'd be unhappy to not have bought the wg version, but not as much to be willing to pay the current prices for it. For that price, I'd buy other watches.

Obviously the title says it all !
IMHO though here is a list of things I don't like in this watch:
- The dial with the "anniversary" inscription that (to me) alters the overall balance
- The diamond indexes
- The chronograph movement is thicker than the 240 PS IRM C LU that you find in the 5712 for instance. I tried on the Nautilus Annual Calendar 5726 which was a bit too thick, I feel Nautilus' should remain thin.
Good points:
- The blue dial is nice
- The fact that it is a Limited Edition, you won't see it on every wrist !
There you go, it is a very personal decision and definitely a matter of tastes ! I hope the above can give you some room for thoughts and keep us posted when you buy it !

It is a very interesting model that I see people liking more and more
The diamond-set markers surprised at the beginning because it was new and recalling the 1980's-1990's in some Western countries, but they are taking better and better their place in these watches (5976, 5711P and 5170P or 5396R). Patek Philippe has always provided diamond markers (more with round-shaped in the past). This "decoration" has a charm that matches very well the Nautilus line-up as linked with a "water" theme.
Now that it is introduced by the brand in some models, it may become cool again, especially with casual outfits.
This is one of my favorite dials for the 5976, 5980 or 5990 references, the blue is darker than it seems on pictures and works very well with the white markings. I must say I appreciate very much the few wristshots that have been shared here (you can use the "loupe" function to find more about the 5976).
The watch is heavier than a Steel version and in 44mm (instead of 40.5mm). You have to see if both elements are good for you.
Now, the price is really your own issue. Firstly, because we prefer not dealing with prices or worth on the forum (quite subjective in the end) as we prefer talking about the watch itself and then leave each one decide if we get enough for what we spend. Secondly, because it depends on what the future will be, hence leading to speculation. That's why the "investment" criteria should really be taken from a certain distance.
So I think you should really see if you like and appreciate this watch very much, if it suits your lifestyle and your tastes. It is a great watch to enjoy imho with no real flaws and the decision of the price is yours.

I do like the watch, don't need the wg/diamonds. If this came in SS would get it, or if the 5990 had a blue dial. Appreciate the continued thoughts on this watch. I know at the end of the day I need to choose. Big choice and your thoughts help.

Go visit Chrono24 – there you’ll find a number of pre-owned/NOS discontinued steel 5980s.
Why spend $145K when you can spend $40K, and not have to bother with diamond markers or an embossed dial that many can’t stand the thought or sight of.

Hi George. My view is similar to that of Mark.
Admittedly, I wasn't initially convinced I'd not find fault with the piece - the diamonds and inscription had me most worried. However, as a Nautilus collector in particular there was enough about the watch to got me excited - size, tone (both blue face and warm WG), limited edition, etc - enough to take the plunge. And indeed I'm very, very happy I did.
As I've shared in other posts, my concerns have proven unfounded in my opinion. I quite favor the distinctive, yet subtle, personality infused by the diamond hour markers. The inscription adds a "special-ness" to the watch on close inspection, which all but disappears at casual glance. The combination of all ingredients really make the 5976 the "granddaddy" of modern Nautilus. Of course, you need to enjoy, not just be able to tolerate, the heft. Think 5980/1R plus 25%, in both dimensions and mass...
As to price, that's for you to decide 😉

I love Patek watches but wouldn't buy any of the Nautilus range as i don't like the style of the watch. But i see that they are very popular in this forum. But thats the good think different products for different tastes 😃
