No right or wrong answrs here, just curious how opinions divide between these two world time watches.

On the one hand, there is the beauty of the enamel and the beautiful colouring of the dial. Yet on the other hand there is the magic of the moonphase complication aligned to a world time. Black dial/white metal combinations also have a particular call to me. Somehow, I see the 5575G as a watch for celebration and one that i would typically wear in the evening. The 5131R, on the other hand, is one that i would see myself with during the daytime, perhaps even at a business meeting. The cases differ quite significantly. The dials have totally different personalities.

Two world time watches, but two very different personalities in my view. I have difficulty making a choice between these two as they both serve such different purposes (thankfully both belong to my son). Curious what others think.

 

wear 5575 for work because it is more discrete and 5131 for outings because its dial is more vibrant and fun !

However, the moonphase, as I previously said is my favourite complication and I find that its combination with the world time is a stunner, so I would prefer the 5575G. Another feature of the 5575G that I adore( not only in this specific piece) is the contrast between the dark dial and the white metal. Thank to this specific feature and to the moonphase, as you said, this watch could be a perfect choice for an evening occasion. Nevertheless the enamel dial of the 5131R is a true work of art with all the colour shades. Best

I hear what you say on movement....but when the watches have such different personalities, it becomes much less of a problem for me.

But i have to say, i would not place the 5110 above these two in a hierarchy.

I have owned both and miss the 5575G more. The moon is still the most enchanting moon in any watch, the design of the lugs is very special and make the 39.8mm case more wearable than the 39.5mm case of the 5131R. Yes admittedly, reading the time on the 5575G is not so easy compared to the 5131R and the enamel dial of the 5131R is unique especially if one has a model with a lot of snow in Siberia and Alaska. There will always be more (perhaps three time more) 5575G than 5131R but the 5575G remains the only Patek that I loved and sold. As a rule, I do not sell watches that I love but I reluctantly did with the 5575G because a friend of mine scratched the case with her diamond ring - a truly heart breaking experience. I proudly wore the 5575G during many Patek events including the factory visit and it made me feel extra special. I never did wear my 5131R and have no regrets.

or just plain objective because when a watch is too large for my wrist, even if it is a little too large, I will not make any compromises. This is the price of buying a watch that you are unable to try on first. I have placed the 5131R many times (albeit in its sealed form) and tried to convince myself that it fitted me but it does not Joe! I a quite odd as I can compare a perpetual calendar against a chronograph and a comparison does not have to be made in my books with the same items. I have a number of headings when choosing a watch and give each watch a mark out of 10. I then add up the total score to decide which is best. Just me being my weird self

.....you gave the 5575 a chance to be worn for a prolonged period....but the 5131 had no chance. As objective and scientific as you say you are being......watches DO grow on you in terms of appreciation and love.

But the reason why the 5575G enjoyed actual wrist time Joe was because it actually fitted my wrist a lot better than the 5131R would have done. Some people for example would consent to an arranged marriage in the hope that love will eventually set in. I however, believe in love at first sight or more practically a love marriage. The fact that I have been married and divorced four times makes my philosophy questionable!

When unsure about a watch, one of the conditions that need to be satisfied before I buy it would be the possibility of retrieving all my money back should the watch not be suitable. The 5131R fell into this category. Similarly, I have a left a deposit on a RW Smith Series 2 but am unsure about its 13.5mm height. Nevertheless, I do know should this watch be deemed unsuitable, it will almost definitely return my money should I decide to sell it. This is why I am unable to buy say a Lange or a Vacheron unless I am 100% sure it will be a keeper. For most of us, with the number of lovely watches in the market, it is near impossible to say how long we would keep a particular watch. I may be very wrong here but for me personally my 5940G and 7200R are likely to stand the test of time. I hope so anyway. I cannot say the same about the H Moser I just purchased or the RW Smith I have on order. They are beautiful watches in their own right but they have to feel right for me in terms of weight, diameter, lugs curvature, height, etc. Fussy old pot aren't I?!

B-man liked the 5131 more than 5575. But after seeing the 5575 live, became more of a fan.

But both are good watches i just like cloissone dial. Thanks for posting Baron.

Surely the "in-hand" experience could alter my view. But I prefer the 5575 hands-down. Probably because of the moon phase. It is so beautiful. Yes, the cloisonné dial is gorgeous. But I am not crazy about the map details and I do not care for the printing used for the city names. If I had this watch I might not wear it often because I would feel it was going to draw unwanted attention. 

...I vote for the 5131 specially because I love it in R version. Not that I dislike 5131G or 5575G but I don't know why the 5131R really speaks to my heart while the 2 others speak to my eyes only : beautiful but they leave me cold compared with rhe rose gold one.Nothing rational so I can't explain, I'm talking about emotion only...

Starting with the hands, continuing with the white gold case and finally the much more interesting sky compared to earth.

Aside from that I'm really not a fan of the hole/circle in the hour hand on the 5131.

I guess, if forced, I would pick the 5575. And that's only because I don't wear yellow metals. If 5131 was a P, than it would win, hands down.
