I think the Chrono because of the size but having seen neither in the flesh I need to reserve judgment! What remains clear is that the live photos are indeed giving a far more appealing impression of them both.

First, thank you very much for sharing those wristshots, they are very rare and often low quality, this will definitely help people make a little clearer opinion but especially allow watch fans to have a closer look at them.

For me, these 2 watch are very interesting and go much further than a standard choice for an anniversary celebration Patek wanted to remain discreet (though the buzz made it louder of course). Yes, baguettes are definitely not the most commun design selection but this is also what an anniversary piece should be about.

The world is moving on and style is as well. At any time of history, in many other fields than watches, the more traditional and conservative tastes took time to leave room for the modern era (3700, 5070, 5960, 5450 etc...).

Of course this doesn't mean that new is always better but it means that people are often mistaken when they say new is wrong in specific cases.

That's why I tried to explain that these novelties should have been observed in a more global and fresh way. People don't need to like them but at least look at them with a different perspective.

I'll write about this later but think this first shot you posted is very very appealing.

Even the Chrono looks good on your large wrist. The chronograph counters colors and printings look great to me as well.

When 3700 was introduced 40 years ago, Patek fans were screaming. Such design, steel, weird, non-Patek and everything one can imagine.
Forty years later Patek wanted to shake again and get strong reactions just like they got 40 years earlier.
I heard in Geneva about a prototype they made for this forty years celebration. We'll probably see it in 10 years and if I'm then still alive, I'll get it. I have placed my name to the list already.

The 5711 is beautiful and I would say a killer if it wasn't for that writing on the dial.

The chrono is simply to big (for my taste). And I've got the same wrist size as you so it's absolutely doable but the size just doesn't fit the watch IMO. It isn't a dive watch like Panerai.

The color of the dial in combination with the platinum is beautiful. And I like the diamond indexes too. But for heavens sake: Why that writing on the dial?!? It ruins the elegance.

Nevertheless I'm sure they will sell.

I could wear the chrono without problems. It has the same thickness as 5980 and in a bigger case the watch wears slim!

My only comment is that they are suppose to be sport watches in the maritime mode , so to be made of platinum would contradict the sports mode then it has bling. Making it more dress watch than a sports watch. But this just my opinion. But its an anniversary piece so platinum is called for. So let Patek celebrate the nautilus line it sees fit. Thats there call. Respect and admire their products. I am happy to own a Nautilus even if only in steel.

I refused one year ago the standard 5711P by saying "Nautilus is a maritime inspired sports watch and it should be made of steel". A month later I regretted but the watch was gone already.
I think it's suitable to celebrate 40 years with a platinum version and in 10 years we will probably see an added dimension.

you might regret it! I would also say that is a good investment.

However, I am buying only watches I also wear. Investments: I like e.g. land.

you found it too heavy than no. My experience with a full platinum watch is limited to the day date 36mm platinum. After one or two days I was totally okay with the weight and I don't regret buying it. In fact it is one of the watches I wear the most. This said my collection is much smaller and I am certain that you will know what to do.

and I always love the additional weight the material gives. Furthermore, I love the cold platinum colour. So the weight is not the issue.
