We all have different definitions of the perfect chrono but your choice is certainly a great one! Bravo!

I must agree the Dato (one of my fav) is a tad thick and not the most comfy on the wrist smile

Enjoy your new 5170G in the best of health!

Cheers
Robin

Thanks Robin! I appreciate your kind words. [nt]

I think 5170 does not yet get the respect it deserves. The movement is simply great and the relative thinness of the case is appealing without mentioning the soft pushers. I'm just dreaming about 5170P to accompany my 5070P.

Best, Kari

Thanks Kari!

The 5170P, now that would be perfection outdone!

It will come... [nt]

Wonderful watch and wonderful read of your journey to 'unearth' it.

It is amazing how comfort on the wrist can be underestimated before we try watches on. I often have been amazed when a theoretically less outstanding watch, but perfect on the wrist, can be a killer when you try it on and really put its competitors to the shade.

Wear it in the best of health for a long long time!
Alex

Thanks Alex...

... and very true about our initial perception based on what we see in the press photos. Once we handle it in the flesh, it usually sets the perspective nicely. Even the newly released black dial version of the 5170G, it looked utterly gorgeous in all the press photos as it was shot under studio lighting. But when I saw it under normal lighting, I had a very hard time telling the time, as the hands were often very hard to see!

Congrats! Beautiful piece [nt]

like you, I've also been on the search for the 'perfect' chrono and it comes down to pp5170/5070 and Datograph. It is a difficult choice since both are outstanding. Will decide to pull the trigger when the time is right.

Enjoy your 5170 in good health bro.  Cheers !

Thanks bro...

At times it pays to take a breather and let things settle down in our heads and hearts. It will then become very clear on what looks cool now, and what we would consider a timeless piece. Looking forward to seeing the one that finally wins your heart!

The benchmark of modern chronos

For all the reasons you mentioned and all the new technical aspects of this in-house movement one can truly think: it is perfect. Great choice. Best Moritz

Thanks for the kind words, Moritz! [nt]

I've been able to handle it several times and reading about its very well designed and clever features. This is indeed one of the best chronograph movement today in traditional watchmaking.

Even more so as it is something that needs to be produced at more than a few pieces.

Many details are also showing how things have been taken care of: the levers setting, the dynamometric crown, the teeth shaping work etc.

Finally, the dial layout is absolutely wonderful and maybe my favorite.

Congratulations to you and it looks perfect on your wrist by the way, the ideal size.

Do not heistate to share some pictures in the wild when you wear it!

Cheers, Mark

Thanks for the kind words, Mark

Yes, the winding mechanism was quite ingenious, giving the user a distinct clicking sound when it's fully wound up. But the dial, that was one of the main things that kept me coming back to it. It's not shouty by any measure, yet possesses enough character of its own enough to keep me engaged. And like now, keeping me awake during dry moments in the meeting wink

Exactly!
