I have a very simple question that may have been answered before but I could not find it anywhere. Are the tropical band and bracelet interchangeable on this reference? In other words if I get the bracelet model, can I seamlessly have a tropical strap put on by the dealer? Or is there a difference.
Yes, you can change from bracelet to rubber strap and vice versa. The rubber strap is reasonably priced by Patek standards but the folding clasp is not.
But if you have both bracelet and rubber, you will have like two different watches.
at least for recent production. I carefully checked my friend's 5167/1A and wife's 5087/1A. And I was disappointed about the craftsmanship of the bracelet. If you spend $1200 to get the rubber strap and clasp, chances are you probably will never go back to the bracelet. Apparently, Patek doesn't put the same kind of efforts on the bracelet as the famous Nautilus'. My personal suggestion is to get the 5167A. And if you do want a steel Patek on bracelet, there are several Nautilus out there, which carries unparalleled overall finishing among all sports watches. Cheers, Damon
Thank you Kari. I learned this at a cost. I have 5167A and never thought of a bracelet. But wife spent $1250 to get a pair of rubber straps and a steel clasp ($1000+!). She said thus she would have both worlds. She waited for 4 months to get them for HSWA! Once she switched to rubber strap, she never came back to bracelet again. What an expensive redundancy.
I bought 5167 with bracelet and later the strap + folding clasp. I sold the watch because there was somebody else's name on the Certificate and bought (nearly with the same money) a new from Tiffany. However, this time I did not take the bracelet because the whole idea of Aquanaut is the rubber strap matching the dial. With the rubber strap it must be one of the most comfy watches on earth!
I had my honeymoon trip in 2011 to Hawaii and I went there back last summer with my wife and small daughter. On the first trip we bought quite a lot of jewellery for my wife but nothing for me.
I wanted to get a nice souvenir from Honolulu and Bob, aka Masterpiece, managed to order from the local Tiffany a 5167. Now every time I wear the watch, I can hear "Aloha" in my ears. Nice memories and a fantastic watch.
Thanks for the information. That is very helpful. I have been searching for the 5167 with the tropical strap with no success. I was tempted to get the 5167 with the bracelet then switch it out. However, I finally found the one I wanted. Fortunately, I only have to travel all the way across the US (practically) to pick it up from the AD….but it's worth it. Quite hard to find…surprisingly.
