When the original 1921 model with crown at 1 o'clock was presented to the American market, it was described as an oversized-display watch for right-handed wear; it had an enamel dial with large military-style radium numerals. The 1921 followed a similar design from 1916 with the crown canted to 11 o'clock; both positions felt necessary to adapt a lepine pendant-watch movement to the cushion-shaped design (they would repurpose unused lepine movements in the 30s as well, with crown at 12 o'clock). V&C made a real "driver's watch" for both men and women, with the case shaped to sit on the inside of the wrist which allowed the wearer to view the time without removing their hand from the steering wheel.
