But since this is the thread to 'celebrate' such experiences in particular here it is again....
I have desired this exact watch with as much feverish intensity as I could possibly desire an inanimate object, from the moment I lay eyes on it when I joined this community in February-March 2010. From that moment, I knew I had to obtain it at some future point in time, regardless of how long the devastating effects of the Great Recession would extend that time-lapse to........ As it turned out, that moment in time arrived precisely 12 years later in February-March 2022 !! I would never have imagined, from the outset, that it could ever end up taking that long, but it sure did, my financial and professional situation wasn't spared in the slightest from the world being brought to the brink of total economic ruin by the American financial system.... Regardless, I feel eminently privileged to have managed to survive through all those truly difficult years, and not only that, but to have finally been able to obtain this gorgeous watch and make it into an occasion in my lifetime that is as poignant and memorable as any will turn out to be! Here are a couple of images from this gloomy L.A. morning ........
Hi All
The watch that was the most protracted to get was my Futurematic.
Read about them in a watch magazine QP I think, and was instantly struck. Lots of hunting and many dead ends. Followed by success, as I found one I liked and got it shipped - only to find someone had got to the contents before me Took a year of wrangling between the insurance company , the US Postal service & the UK post office, so you can imagine the pain, to get the insurance to pay out.
So somewhat, more reserved & constrained in my hunt, it took another couple of years to find one in a dealers I was happy with & I could actually visit & see the watch before getting it.
So no apologies for the number of photos.
I'd also note it went away to be serviced just before covid started & it was 10 months until I had it back again.
It's a great watch & been worth the challenges of getting it & keeping it.
Cheers
JML
A truly epic tale and so happy there was a Happy End to it!

Especially the postal box arriving empty must have been a true bummer! Glad it finally got sorted and that eventually you managed to get the watch, which is one of the signature pieces in your collection ππ»ππ»
That initial bust must have been a 'hard pill' to swallow.... Supremely happy for you to have managed to get to the finish line with it as originally intended! Inspiring stuff, Filip
Hello JML!! The Futurematic is one of my favorite watches among your beautiful collection as I had told you before. Now I discover the awesome story behind its catch!!

Thank you for sharing with us. IΒ΄m happy you could finally get it and you can enjoy it so much. A wonderful piece well worth the efforts and time invested to get it. Keep enjoying and loving so much! Best cordial regards, Abel
Firstly, many thanks to our great host KMII for providing us with another very enjoyable theme.
Over the years there have been several watches that have taken time to bring home after eluding my collection for various reasons, but luckily in the end resistance was futile ;-)) β¦
The Rolex 16610LV βKermitβ.
Back in the day this watch wasnβt the easiest to find at an AD, all depending on luck and I missed a few by a couple of days or hours. Finally I got lucky and the after jumping in the car and an epic dash to the AD ! β¦Those were the days !
The Omega Speedmaster 67 β¦
This watch took many years of hunting to find a watch in good original condition with the rare CB case.
Perseverance finally payed off and Iβm never letting it slip away ! β¦
Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167A β¦
What more can I say about this journey other that Iβm pleased with the end result β¦
Three great watches you share here dear Captain. It may have required a long hunt but it was well worth the efforts and perseverance. Well done my dear friend!

The CB case Speedy is a real dream for any Speedmaster fan. Keep enjoying them so much! Cheers! Abel
As you know the CB is difficult as many have very been polished removing the distinctive case bevels, unique to the CB. You also have to Aquanaut 5167A, and know how enjoyable this watch is in almost any situation. The equivalent of the Swiss Army Knife.
My pleasure Captain. Yes, the CB is a very difficult variant to catch. Few were produced and as you say the distinctive inside lug bevel can be removed when polishing the case.

That makes the CB such a coveted variant among Speedmaster collectors.
Agree with you about the Aquanaut. Loved your reference to the Swiss Army Knife!
I also own a Submariner 50th Anniversary (Kermit) by the way. ItΒ΄s an unique Sub variant and I consider an important piece to have for a Submariner collector. Mine was not bought after a long hunt but as result of an unexpected offering from a seller some years ago. I couldnΒ΄t refuse the offering of course! Lol.
They were interesting times back then, I became determined to get this watch and I hit on this one after a random call to an AD early one morning. The watch had just been delivered and they had called a customer who said he couldnβt view the watch until around 1:00 pm. I put down the phone and dashed straight out the door jacket and wallet in hand. I think it almost cost me a set of tyres getting to the AD π
