A legend's name engraved on my watch
A name I have not heard of for awhile since his retirement. But this legend's name is forever engraved on my Montblanc Villeret Chronograph Grand Feu Enamel.
Master Watchmaker Mr Demetrio Cabiddu, the former MD / Technical Director of the Institut Minerva de Recherche en Haute Horlogerie and the Montblanc Villeret manufacture. Ah... those were the good old days with the TimeWriter projects and partnerships, as well as the limited productions per movements created.
Speaking of which: KMII - did Montblanc get back to you on my question? so now every Villeret calibre can far exceed 288 production lots with no issues ?
Anyway I'm honoured to have a watch signed by Mr Cabbidu on the hunter case back. He is a true Purist. Rather than a signature by business oriented leaders or "Watchmakers". (Not referring to any current Montblanc watches which have no signatures whasoever)

Unfortunately no need of his skills for the new Montblanc (formerly Minerva).
The kind of touch I am fond of. The watch as well, a true jewel, inside and outside.
Now as for the 288 pieces per movement, I was not aware of that, but to give you my opinion, there are two things to avoid:
- This kind of limitation. Would we have the 1858 Tachymeter, if they respected it? Would we have other treasures to be released?
- At the opposite of the " spectrum ", Montblanc should avoid to have limited editions of the limited editions. The 1858 Tachymeter Bronze raises that question:
Is it good for the image of the brand to have another LE of the 1858 Tachymeter? How collectors and owners of the steel and rose gold versions do feel after seeing the Bronze unveiled?
Personally, I don't care, as I am very happy with my steel / blue, and I bought it for what it is, a superb watch and a true killer. But still...

Yes that 288 "natural limitation" per Villeret movement was well documented when The Montblanc Villeret Collection Villeret 1858 was launched way back in 2007 and in their 2008 Anniversary launches (when this watch of mine was launched). Sadly when the new mgt decided to go away from this policy, nothing was communicated. As per my other post to KMII, collectors of older Villeret watches like me are not happy and we lose faith in the brand as a result

I am a little bit disappointed with MB issuing new limited editions of their mono pusher tachymeter. I do not think that's right and not even intelligent. To build up the brand image some rare and very wanted watches are needed. At the same time if the buyers know, that everything will later appear in new versions, the interest is milder. At least my interest.

I know it is a business.
But it is a matter of short term vs. long term. In case Richmond want to place MB watches higher, then legacies are needed. And the best way of creating legacies is to produce something very wanted. That will help sales in the future.
