New Montblanc 1858 collection is officially released!
I just posted the press release and you can read it here:
I will come back to this collection soon. For Minerva lovers, this is a homage to the year the manufacture was founded, back in 1858.
I am especially exciting that Montblanc has released the Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter with the lovely Villeret calibre 16.29!
Other than this chronograph which is limited to 100 pieces, there is a also a limited Montblanc 1858 Small Second Special Edition limited to 858 pieces in steel.

What took MB so long to go back to this line???
What a creation from Montblanc. The "mount blanc" logo for the brand is nicely incorporated to the dial layout, too. What a watch! Can you, or anybody else, confirm if the hairspring was/is in-house?
As far as I remember Minerva's hairsprings were, but I am not sure.

All Montblanc Villeret movements have hairspring and balance wheel completely manufactured in-house.

Indeed the 16.29 calibre
Is stunningly designed and finished by hand!
Here is a live picture of calibre 16.29 taken by Constantin, of his Villeret Grande Chronograph grand feu enamel (limited 58 pieces) which has the same movement. Of course his watch has a much more finely finished case with a hunter back and with a grand feu enamel dial.

That is a phenomenal chronograph!
What a shame it is so strictly limited in output. Is there a chance that Montblanc will eventually put this movement and dial design in other metals?
The calibre 16.29
Along with all other calibres from Montblanc's Villeret manufacture is naturally limited as all parts are meticulously finished by hand.
So they can't have too many watches with this calibre.
I have hopes though... Let's see if I can have some good news soon

Dear Robin, first of all we should acknowledge that Montblanc is lately overloading you with a lot of new proposals!!! It seems you have a lot of work, as a Moderator ;-) For sure, they're one of the most dynamic Brand out there. Congratulations to Mr. Lambert, who is making Montblanc running faster than ever.
That said, I'd like to add my rashly opinion on these new proposals.
About the 1858 Small Seconds Special Edition, I'd synthetically say it's a really interesting proposal, even if in this product range my landmark (and in general one of my favourite watch) remains the IWC Big Pilot.
About the 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter... well... Sirs... I know I'm writing about a very limited edition, so my humble opinion will probably appear a bit silly to the 100 lucky men that will happily buy this fantastic piece, so I must trust on your patience ;-)
My first reaction on it was extremely positive and, yes, I've even jumped from my chair! And I still find this watch really attractive.
Then, I've started seeing a sort of contradiction, something that put this timepiece slightly far from my likings. I'd say I don't perfectly understand all of this luxury in a pilot watch. I find slightly out-of-place this woderful, gorgeous movement in a military-looking watch. Maybe, with a steel case everythig could look more coherent. Or maybe I'd even preferred the movement to look more flat, with all the components having the same colour.

I have to check for Minerva, but some vintage Chronographs had gilt movements.
And they were tool watches, too, so it is not a contradiction for me.

It's a Limited Edition of 49 pieces realized (I don't know when) for TimeZone forum members. The 49 limited series clearly refers to the calibre's name. Here's a picture of this calibre:
