Less than 2 weeks ago ( see my post on 30th. Oct ) a new ALS convert, let's called him Mr. T, acquired his first Lange, the Datograph Up/down.
He vowed that this would be his one and only Lange....... but we know better, don't we?
Prior to our lunch today we decided to pop into the ALS boutique at the 1881 Heritage site. Mr. T was already itching for his second ALS, a bit sooner than I had expected actually. We had discussed earlier on which one would be a good follow up to the Dato. Since he was fond of chronographs he was originally drawn to the new 1815 chrono. However, with a bit of gentle nudging I steered him towards a simple 3 handed watch - the Richard Lange, which has long been a favourite of mine.
In the boutique, we were treated to impeccable service and it is always a pleasure to chat with the knowledgeable and friendly staff there and at the same time ogle at all the fine timepieces, in a pleasant surrounding.
In the end, the contenders came down to the final tray you see here:

Would that have been your choice too?

A pleasant lunch followed and again I wish to share this happy occasion with all of you here.
Right now I'm racking my brains to come up with a third ALS for my friend.
Thanks for looking.
Fernando

The 3 W's are plentiful but sometimes costly.

is very attractive in the metal Sam. It's unique and sure to be a talking point amongst ALS aficionados.
I'm still on the fence on whether it will prove to be a long term love affair or a short fling.

Love the RL boutique edition. Also love the RL platinum, but the premium is stiff. The Lange 1 lumen looks great, but I can't help but wonder if it's classic enough for my admittedly prejudiced view of Lange timepieces: beautiful yet austere. When I think Lange, I don't think playful or untraditional. Perhaps that's unfair of me, but my buying patterns generally follow my views of a brand's essence (probably one reason I've never taken to some brands: they don't seem to have an essential character; too much is derivative; not enough of the brand's own essence).
Cheers,
John

I hope you told your friend about two special aspects about the RL:
1) the smoothness of the second hand, that is only possible with the "extra bit on top of the movement", where without it would not run nicely at all.
2) it has got on in-house Lange spring!
Would be also my choice ...

I would have preferred him to have acquired the Pt "Original" RL, but well to each his own!
Please send my best wishes to him, and to wear his watch in the best of health, always!

He likes the contrast of the blue hands with the white dial. I'm sure he appreciates your kind words.

Dear Fernando,
DO share it with us here when you acquire the Pt RL!
It may look like a humble watch, but in my humble opinion it is even more "complicated" than the recent launches, yes even that 1815 Perp Cal Rattrapante!
DO wear it to believe in this overly Chronometrically correct Meisterwerk!

they usually get priority.

He's over the moon with it and contemplating his third.
