Cutting-edge design and technology concepts refine both automotive
engineering and the world of time measurement. Two prestigious
representatives of both disciplines met for a photo shoot in Munich a
few days prior to this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
For
the second time now, A. Lange & Söhne is supporting this legendary
competition for classic automobiles and avant-garde prototypes scheduled
to take place in Como from 24 to 26 May 2013. The event showcases
unique vintage cars and latest-generation prototypes in an impressive
manifestation of the intimate links between tradition and progress. For
the winner in the “Best of Show” category, A. Lange & Söhne has
created a timepiece that is as unique as the automobile that takes the
prize: an exclusive special model of the LANGE 1 TIME ZONE. The
hand-engraved caseback of the watch displays the coat of arms of the
Concorso d’Eleganza. And on its rotating city ring, Como stands for
Central European Time.
Technology summit: Special Concorso model of the LANGE 1 TIME ZONE meets BMW i8 concept car.
Mechanical timekeeping instruments crafted
by A. Lange & Söhne not only stand for tradition and artisanship,
but also for innovative technical solutions that are ahead of their
time. So it was only natural to initiate a dialogue between the most
coveted award of the Concorso with a concept study that embodies nothing
less than the sports car of the future. With the intelligent eDrive
concept of the i8, BMW succeeded in overcoming the perpetual
contradiction between abundant power and low fuel consumption. 356 HP
contrasts against 2.7 litres per 100 km. The analogy in Lange’s product
philosophy is the ongoing quest to push the boundaries in technical
feasibility and to reconcile apparent opposites.
