Der Datograph.!.!
My AD called me last Monday and I picked up the watch on the Thursday..The three months wait was well and truely worth it...
It is stunning. I have seen and handled the Dato many times before but this does not soften the feeling of wrapping the watch around your wrist and tightening the buckle...
The grey strap is just wonderful, I thought I was going to get a black strap... I am pleased that I did not... The grey shade is beautiful.
Don't know why I waited this long to consider it but I am lucky to have it now...

Ahhh! the datograph....one of my dream pieces!
Wear it in good health!
Cheers! sh
This Dato is really a Milestone in a collection,, even if I hate the word " Milestone ", as I find it stupid...
But for the Dato, this is an appropriate word, IMO, as this watch has all...Strenght, Beauty, Class, even Timeless, and what to say about the movement???
Wear it well, my friend, take care of it, as it and you deserve...
Best.

Thanks All, Thanks Nicolas,
It is indeed a beautiful watch. the mechanism more so than the watch if I dare say this out loud. A nice piece and I am counting my blessings for the opportunity to have gotten one.
Now I need to learn how to take proper shots to capture how truely nice this watch can be.
thanks again

Forget criteria. I'm not asking about price, case metal, design, functions, movement, etc.
Just plain and simple... what tops the platinum Dato? IMO, nothing.
For what it is worth, I came sooooooooooo close to buying a RG Timezone last week, but in my heart the platinum Dato is tops.
Enjoy your purchase!
Thanks for the kind words Michael, The TZ is a great piece as well. I bought it before the Dato. I love it and yet I kept wishing for the Dato. I am not sure what I would have done if I got the Dato first?
have a good day

He went out to buy one as soon as the watch was launched, That's how good the Datograph is.

Hi ,
Everyone who owns a Dato basically MUST seen the movie "I am a Lengend".
Those whom owns this watch are owner to a fine legend.ITs simply impossible to call yourself a legend but once this watch settle on your wrist you will understand a legend you either own or about to start.
owners' of this fine legend will understand my words......LOLOLO.

I am not an expert in auction dynamics but whilst teh Dato is produced in relatively small numbers, it is not seen as a rarity. It's been in production for 10 years now and you can always find a Dato if you are willing to wait three months.
In my view, rarity is key. This is a marketing strategy that PP does very well. Should Lange decide to stop producing the Dato, I am sure the resale/ auction price will be improved. I personally think that Lange's approach is to create a classic/ iconic watch rather than a rare watch.

Hello Eric,
Everyone, every team, every country has its own course to choose and navigate.
The value of Patek being a family own business is more adaptable to own course and decision but Lange's faith lies within the board of Richmont group. The group's bread and butter lies within the brands and sales figure.
Comparison aside....the value vs appreciation is the question here.
If passionation is all about it the value question is simply ignorable. You care about value then there are more places you can invest and make even much more profit rather than spending your time hunting for rare Patek pieces. There are properties, shares, currencies and etc to flip more profit. The real excitement here is the passion and aprreciationship for watches that so many of us are not tired talking here.
On the other hand,Patek's reputable auction ''s value has upset many many collectors in the midst of collecting their pieces and have in the end turn their direction to some other brands. To me,collector's has their own merits and dignity in handling transaction and etc. Here the consiousness vs purchase drive is the key element. But no question, there are many still dominating the "Value" factor in deciding therefore making patek an legendary in Value,i would say....
Cut things shorts, here in this partcular topic put up by Rab,we would put its as "the legend" refering to its craftmanship and the iconic design that last for so many years and still love and treasure by many collectors.
Those are just my 2cts thoughts.......
Thanks.
