The Lange Odysseus is growing on me 😱
I'm thinking of shooting an email to my AD to see if there's any option to try it on in the coming weeks, after the lockdown.
I have no idea about availability, but I've seen that some of our dear Purists have one already. Any input is welcome. I guess that the global situation will not help with future deliveries.
I'm also surprised (positively) that there isn't any available at Chrono24, so I wonder whether "flippers" are not interested in it or Lange is only selling it to selected clients. Time will tell I guess.
I would love to read your thoughts on the watch and its availability. It may "help" me to consider it more seriously 😉

About the availability the priority is given to Lange clients I mean people with already several pieces. It is also the reason why you don't find it on C24. We are talking about people who are faithful to the brand.

That's a completely understandable policy. However it's funny, because you'd think, that this watch is needed to attract new, younger clients to this rather classic watch brand.
Do you think, the new WG version will be the same, or will it be easier to abtain for non Lange-customers?

The WG seems to be available. I know one AD who has it incoming. Fully agree on your thoughts that it will make sense if this model is also made available to non-existing Lange clients for the purpose of education and experience. It’s an interesting design, and I’m looking forward to see it in the metal. As Biver says, keep an open mind!

Which is something most people don't understand. This watch is specially made to cater existing clients because they wanted something more rugged for so long.
It was never their intend to compete with other sports watches but the crowd makes it look like... wonder why is that? Do they fear of missing out the current wave of sports watches?

I've been considering several ones in the past, and will definitely add the brand to my collection one day (hopefully). Initially, I've always been interested in the usual suspects, mainly Lange 1 and Datograph, although I'm loving the Zeitwerk badly lately.
But as a "rotational one watch guy", I'm starting to see in the Odysseus a lot of elements that appeal to me, and will qualify it as a nearly perfect watch for my daily use. Who knows? But I'm definitely looking forward to see it in the flesh the sooner the better.

Boutique only purchases count
When I inquired about the availability, I was told that you had to have spent at least $25,000 at a Lange boutique in order to qualify for the Odysseus. The boutique I went to told me that my Lange purchase in Harrod’s Lange store was not considered a boutique purchase so did not count. They were favoring boutiques over ADs as they transition to a model of selling mostly (only?) through boutiques. Wondering if others heard a similar story?

Was trying to get the Odysseus but given this would have been my first Lange, was told by the New York boutique if I buy another Lange first from them I would likely be able to make the list. And same as well in that if I was to buy my first Lange from an AD instead of that boutique it would not count. This make my quest for the Odysseus impossible as buying from out of country for me make it even more expensive between exchange rate and duty tax. For example buying the 1815 up down from the boutique instead of my local dealer would cost me ~$15k more because of the exchange rate and duties... 😩😳
So it seems like will have to wait until all the existing Lange collectors get theirs [nt]

Something similar happened to me with AP. All sorts of models became boutique only and my AP purchases at the AD before didn‘t count. Didn‘t buy any AP after that. [nt]
Good thing I didn‘t buy a Lange so far, so I don‘t have to care about transition to boutiques, haha.
I can understand the complexity and some business based decisions made by the brands
But the truth is that this hobby is becoming more and more frustrating for most of us, "mortal" watch enthusiasts.
