Reine de Naples Exhibition
I paid a visit at the Zurich Boutique to see the Reine de Naples Exhibition. it has been on display since early December. I understand that it was already shown in other places around the world to celebrate 200 years of the delivery of the first wrist watch to Caroline Murat.
I presume most of us are familiar with the story and the Reine de Naples collection. Explanations are provided on the displays. So without further comments, a few pictures from the exhibition.
Copy from the archive. Unfortunaltey, no drawings have been preserved of the actual watch of Caroline Murat.
dials carved from cameo shells
This is a very special piece, whichis not covered by the catalogue. The dial is sculpted by an artist from 24 k gold, using nothing else but his hand and a steel stylus.

I must say that i consider the Reine de Naples one of the very few outstanding ladies watches. It is very elegent though and probably not an everyday wear. My wife wants one too, and i though why not, but now she found a Patek Philippe even more apealing... now i am really in troubles, my friend.

I bought the first model with moon phase in WG for my wife as a wedding present. It's a lovely watch.
Now I'm waiting to hear if Patek will produce a special order model with bracelet. If not, I will buy for next wedding anniversary a standard Patek and later a bracelet for the Reine de Naples.
With a bracelet this Breguet is stunning and a very feminine watch. I think Nico should hurry up and buy it for his lovely wife!

My wife wants the PP Perpetual
but I intend to buy 4897G unless Patek is making my special order.
Darja is a lightly built Chick and an Annual Calendar would be too thick for her. Furthermore, the dial of 4897G is superb (and the watch is nearly sensibly priced).

I was told by the boutique manager in Zurich that the original 2639 was "oblongue" (thats also what the extract of the archive says) but not necesseraly egg-shaped like the current Reine de Naples collection.
Is this in line with your understanding or do you have differnt information?
