Hi Everyone
I am thinking seriously of a Marine II Big date steel version. Can anyone give me some opinion comparing this to an AP RO steel vesion 15300? Maine has a substantial price premiun over the AP RO based on list price. Considering the movement, quality and the material, I don't see the Marine that much better. It has a "big date" and is 100M water resistant compared to the RO 50m, does that justify the price difference.
Any info on resale value, value for money, movement, materials or even rarity will be much appreciated.
Happy Lunar New Year to all those celebrating it!
Regards
Ivan
I've got both of them and frankly I think the AP is the better value. Both are top tier manufacturers but the AP has the in house 3120 movement compared to the F Piguet in the 5817 which is less exclusive to Breguet and also found in other Swatch group brands like Blancpain and Jaquet Droz. If you are a movement snob then the AP wins. With the Breguet you are paying for the guilloche dial made of gold which Breguet is famous for and that lovely rotor. Both watches have their merits and either choice is a win win but all round I'd take the 15300 for better value. Some ppl also view AP higher in status and finishing than Breguet based on their past histories. Ultimately you must try both the watches and see which one you prefer.
thanks Willi and Pink Panther, good info. I like the Marine Big Date becasue it has sporty feel that the AP 15300 lacks. 15300 is more of a dress watch to me.

Nice dress watch, probably over my budget though.

Hi Ivan,
i think the advice given before by Pink Panther is absolutely correct: try it on a few times and go for what you gut tells you is right - the one that catches your attention the most.
In terms of resale value, both the Breguet and the AP seem to be good and stable.
Best,

Totally agreed, this is just such a versatile watch, it goes well in suit or jeans and is 100m water resistant, the silver dial that shown here is the best. Thanks for sharing your pic. Is yours a ss or gold version? I found out that the price diff between gold and ss is less than other watches. Eg, for JLC, the same model in ss and gold can be double the price but for the Marine II, it is 40~50% difference. Is it because many parts in the ss version is already made of gold?
