Hi, I’m a 4th year university student studying transportation design and, for my major project I am researching and learning about the Breguet brand, its history, the design ethos, what makes Breguet a Breguet and the clientele. Then I’m going to encapsulate the findings and transform them into an automotive form. Essentially designing a Breguet inspired vehicle.
I currently researching the brand on the web and from visiting the boutique in London and I am now trying to gain an insight into the clientele of Breguet. This will help me design a vehicle which best suit’s the consumers functional needs and also your input into what makes the Breguet special to you.
Any input you would be able to give would be very greatly appreciated.
1. What vehicle do you drive at the moment?
2. What is your ideal vehicle?
3. Do you Prefer to drive or be driven?
4. Which appeals to you more? Vehicle power or styling?
5. Which age category do you fall between? -25, 26-50, 51+ (this is to help design the interior packaging, age-size percentiles etc)
6. How many people are in your immediate family? (this is also to determine the basic packaging, how many seats)
7. What are your 2 main hobbies? (this is also to aid the packaging? E.g. If you play golf, ideally there should be room for golf clubs etc)
8. Which area do you work in? finance, sales, military, sports, public services etc. (this is also to aid the packaging design. E.g. does there need to be room for laptop use, space for luggage etc)
9. When do you wear your Breguet watch?(everyday, important occasions(a), never)
(a) How often is this?
10. Could you please write a few words/sentences as to what attracted you to Breguet?
If you would like to input any more information which you feel would help my project I would be very thankful.
Thanks again

hi....... i am 50, i am a self employed painter/decorator...although i am trained in graphic design(a long time ago).
im not that interested in what car i drive, id rather spend £10,000 on a breguet than a car.......
I am also a competetive Bodybuilder and the winner of 15 titlesin the UK
I also collect Breguet literature.
I love breguet because of the heritage and the beauty of the designs....
I also like to be different...ive never seen anyone else wearing a Breguet, hundreds of Rolexes.
Hope this helps.....
Hi Mark,
I’ll play....
1. I drive a Mercedes, a Jaguar, a Toyota, an aircraft and a tractor
2. Depends on where I am going.
3. I trust no one.... and so I insist to drive myself.....for self survival.
4. Styling is essential...Power is necessary.
5. 51 Plus....
6. 3...and that’s why I could never buy a Jaguar Convertible or a Mercedes SL.
7. Who has time for two hobbies? ....Enjoying life is my one and only hobby.
8. I don’t work.
9. I wear a Breguet almost every day.
a. Almost e very day.
10. No problem.....
I enjoy the understated simplicity of a Breguet in that the brand has a heritage, albeit a little inflated and disjointed, but ( today's ) Breguet has managed to combine the traditional features of watchmaking with the modern desires of a discerning clientele.
I agree with Dixie, in that when you wear a Breguet, only you know what you are wearing because most people outside of this Forum have never heard of, or seen a Breguet.
I really enjoy the fact that a manufacturer would make a watch with an engraved dial of solid 18K gold.... and then plate it in silver for contrast with the blued hands...this has to be the ultimate in understatement.
I have enjoyed a few Breguets, but find the 5817 Yellow Gold Marine to be the most pure of timekeepers because it is practical and it simply just tells the time....and does so to a few seconds a month.
In addition to that it has an elegant, yet sporty, look that retains the heritage of watchmaking while being a watch that has the ability to slip quietly into any dress situation in today’s society.
As for the watch.....it is simple to read, has a big and practical date, a more than generous deployment clasp and a winder that you can grasp and use without difficulty.
Also, and a seldom discussed feature, is the silk smooth feel of turning the winder crown.
The 5817 gives a 65 hour power reserve and this is practical if you don’t wear it for a day or two as it is usually still going when next you use it.... and it also has a useful and practical water repellent rating.
Being in Yellow Gold also allows for the removal of the odd scratch that might occur.
I can’t wait to see your car.
Kindest regards,
Jack
Hi friend,
Just wishing you had a great and safe year's end and wishing you all the best for 2009.
Regards,
Jack
Hi Jack, good to ‘see’ you again; hope you are well.
Hi Mark, that’s an interesting project brief. You may find that the very thing that draws people to Breguet timepieces is the factor that prevents you from getting too many public responses here. Hopefully, however, you will get some ‘PM’s’ that will assist your project.
I will say, however, that what attracted me to Breguet was a certain Baroque luxurious richness and the very important horological family name (although the history of the current company is rather fractured).
The fact that only the ‘in the know’ recognise the brand is a bonus and those that do ask me about my Breguet do so because they are interested in the design rather than the brand.
Let us know what car you finally come up with for us!
Regards
Andrew

1. What vehicle do you drive at the moment?
Toyota Land Cruiser HZJ77 and Cessna 206. Got a Land Rover 90, a Range Rover, a VW Golf, recently sold a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen
2. What is your ideal vehicle?
A Range Rover P38, with air suspensions replaced by coil springs, all the electronics pulled out, and a Toyota HZ1 engine... This has a lot to do with the peculiarities of my environment!
3. Do you Prefer to drive or be driven?
To be driven when I have a lot to do, especially in town. To drive when the road is long, bad, or unsafe.
4. Which appeals to you more? Vehicle power or styling?
Function and reliability, then comfort, then style. Power is part of function.
5. Which age category do you fall between? -25, 26-50, 51+ (this is to help design the interior packaging, age-size percentiles etc)
50 sharp.
6. How many people are in your immediate family? (this is also to determine the basic packaging, how many seats)
Two and tons of others.
7. What are your 2 main hobbies? (this is also to aid the packaging? E.g. If you play golf, ideally there should be room for golf clubs etc)
Hunting, aviation, writing, reading, painting, music, travelling, discovering, tinkering, fine guns, first edition books, learning, dogs, wildlife, outdoors, archery, and some. In no particular order. Can't really name two...
8. Which area do you work in? finance, sales, military, sports, public services etc. (this is also to aid the packaging design. E.g. does there need to be room for laptop use, space for luggage etc)
Engineering, consulting, wildlife management.
9. When do you wear your Breguet watch?(everyday, important occasions(a), never)
Whenever I feel like. My other watches are Rolex, much sturdier but not the same league.
(a) How often is this?
Half of the time?
10. Could you please write a few words/sentences as to what attracted you to Breguet?
Timeless beauty, quality, craftsmanship, history, and the fact that the only people who notice it are people who "know". Although I often had remarks such as "that's a beautiful watch... What is it?". A bit like a fine double rifle... Those who know appreciate the sum total of craftsmanship, efficience in function, simple beauty, and hidden mastery encompassed in it. Others just glance and think "Oh, a shotgun...", unless they have the eye for quality in things.
Thanks very much for all your help, i will post a picture of the final design model once i have completed it. Should be mid may.
Your info is influencial to the design process.
Thanks again
