Description

We recently acquired this Patek Philippe 5004 dial. It is very difficult to get this dial since Patek Philippe no longer sells dials. The actual watch itself trades for over $300,000.00 so this would make a nice addition to your collection. The Arabic numeral hour indicators are white gold so it can be used with either a platinum or white gold 5004. The dial is in mint condition and has never been mounted onto a watch. The asking price is $20,000.00 OBO. We can do a face to face deal in New York city. Payment via wire transfer only. Upon receiving payment, we will overnight via insured shipping.

📖 About This Reference

The Patek Philippe Reference 5004 was a significant grand complication produced from 1995 to 2011, succeeding the Reference 3970. It integrated a split-seconds chronograph with a perpetual calendar, moon phases, and a 24-hour indication, positioning it as a highly complex and desirable piece within Patek Philippe's complicated watch offerings. The reference was produced in various metals, with the platinum version, 5004P, being particularly sought after. This reference features a 36mm case, typically crafted from platinum, yellow gold, rose gold, or white gold. It houses the manually wound Caliber CHR 27-70 Q, based on a Nouvelle Lémania ébauche, which is further enhanced with Patek Philippe's perpetual calendar and split-seconds chronograph mechanisms. The movement operates at 18,000 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours. The Patek Philippe Reference 5004 is highly regarded by collectors for its intricate mechanical complexity and its relatively limited production numbers. Its combination of a split-seconds chronograph and perpetual calendar places it among the most technically sophisticated wristwatches of its era, making it a cornerstone for serious collectors of Patek Philippe grand complications.

Which one for you?
Comparison of Patek Philippe watches: Ref. 5270J-001, Ref. 5970J, and Ref. 5004P-021. Preference for simpler, cleaner dials like Ref. 5105 or 5101. Personal choice for shaped watches with less complications. Personal opinion of Emmanuel.

Trying on two green perpetual calendar chronographs
In Florence, tried on Patek Philippe 5270P-014 and 5204G-001. Unexpectedly liked the platinum 5270 with green dial; found the 5204 bulky despite its prestige. Would choose 5270 for its refined design.

Patek Philippe 5004P.
Patek Philippe 5004P struggles with split-second reliability, yet it captivates enthusiasts like Nicolas over the 5970P.

5004 dial how can I be 100% certain about authenticity?  thanks

The dial came out of... The dial came out of Patek Philippe.  It's 100% original otherwise I wouldn't own.

Comment -need hands

Guys,

It is nice to own a different dial, but you will also need 4 contrasting hands.  Specifically, the current black 4 hands on a white dial (2 black hands for the split chrono and 1 each for the GMT and leap year hands) will not "contrast" on the black dial.  You will end up needing to find the 4 "contrasting hands" or send it Patek to have them change out the dials, in which case their new policy (I think) is to keep the extra dial on reserve in Geneva.  Also, it would be a good way (albeit expensive) to find out if it is a genuine black dial.

Good luck,

Rollin

comment Comment - I also need the watch!

I wish the hands were the only problem I had. The current 5004P production comes with a black diamond dial or black stick dial, in addition to white and silver. Therefore hands for a black dial shouldn't be a problem. Any AD with a service department will be able to order hands as easily as they can order straps. My biggest challenge would be getting the watch to put the dial and the hands on smile The last time I checked, one of the major auction houses in the NYC October 2008 sale sold one for $288k with the same dial. In the mean time I'll keep dreaming about the hands.

Good luck,
Sebastien

p.s. The hands are probably the only things I can afford.

Comment Rollin's comment is accurate, but one can always find a way around getting the hand. Patek would not send contrastic hands to an AD.  Even Patek in NY would not be allowed to open a 5004 to install a new dial or hands, much less send parts to an AD. The spare dial would be noce to have, and in today's market prob adds $5k to the value of the watch.
