Now it's my turn to ask!! Constellation advice please

I've always lusted after a black dialled Constellation (well that and a 30T2Rg) and this one has surfaced. To my mind it looks too good to be true - a Cal 551 ref 14381 with a 17million serial. The dial has flat As and sloped Ms and looks good but somethi...

I think we would need higher resolution pictures to tell for sure

Would be a bit suspicious. For starters, the 12-6 crosshair is usually just inside the spine of E in omega and just to the left of the first l in constellation. Doesn't look like the dial fits this but hard to tell for sure given the angle and resolution ...

Refinished.

A well done redial. The A in Automatic should be a smidgen flatter. The last E in Chronometer should start after the C in Automatic. The font in Chronometer is very slightly smaller then in Automatic, it should be the same size on this dial. That being sa...

Many thanks for the opinions but............

I am still not sure whether it is a redial or not - if it is then it is one of the best I have seen. I've tried to put Hoi's image together with mine for a comparison - I'm not quite sure whether the resolution will be good enough but here goes:- [IMG]htt...

The other plausible explanation . . .

. . . is that the current owner sourced a well preserved Omega service dial. If that's the case, you've hit the jackpot. The overall condition of the watch appears to be similarly excellent, which leads me to conclude it's been in the care of an exception...

And unless you are paying a substantial premium for this...

...if it is an older redial, it's such a good one to cause this much uncertainty among the experts that I'd go for it.

Compare the logo on each of the dials

Probably Dr No is correct. If both the watches are of the same era, check and compare the logo of each of them. They have to be of the same height and width, since generally a service dial is short and stumpy while the other is tall and slim. As a last re...

Condition is quite possible

Good watch with nice dials do exist. You don't want to be a victim overly negative thoughts. He is one of mine, another 14381, but RG capped pie pan ...

Hi Andrew I think the dial looks great.... I would like to get a hi res straight on shot.... no glamor etc... to really net it out... But It looks good to me, it would get me to email the seller asking for the super hi res head on shot .... Comparing it t...

I think Art is right.........

It is a NOS service replacement dial with a recently overhauled movement in a polished-up case. In my view, there is a line between a lovely vintage watch and one that has been 'tarted-up' and this one just sits over that line for me. Take a look at the b...

looks good to me. just a question of price....
