Constellation de Luxe
Several years ago, around 2005, I was on holiday in Riga, Latvia. It was a fantastic trip, in the middle of a very cold winter with temperatures down to -27c!
While there i did my usual round of the back streets looking for the small watchshop with the hopefully hidden gems. Well, I managed to find a dead end street with at the very end a very small watchmakers shop. I had a snuffle and a chat and came out with an 18kt 2852/2853 Constellation Pie Pan , calibre 505, with a case in excellent condition but unfortunately a refinished golden dial.
At the time I was very happy as it still looked great and I had always wanted a golden piepan Constellation. The years passed and my knowledge grew and I was no longer so happy with my Constellation, the fact of the refinished dial began to cause "Purist Problems." I went from loving this watch to really liking it to occasionally looking at it...I think you all know what I mean, it was never going to be "the one"
Last week I came across this one locally, another 18kt 2852 2853 Constellation de Luxe with the cal. 505, 1958 vintage. This time almost perfect and with the beautiful stepped piepan dial which was more generally seen on the Grand Luxe of the period.
This time I have definitely found "the one"!
Best regards
Chris
