2520 I believe

Jul 03, 2011,04:50 AM

The watch has not arrived yet (it will probably get here in about a week). I do not seem to be able to get any information out of the new (improved???) Omega vintage database. I liked the old version a lot better.

It is a 2520 / cross ref to 2577 34 mm in diameter..

 By: Bill Sohne : July 3rd, 2011-11:13
Hi The watch looks nice, I hope it is just the angle of the photo ... the vertical cross hair is slightly off-centered to the left. That would annoy me personally more then age to a dial . It is an uncommon signed above the six o'clock position Seamaster ...

Congrats, Pat.

 By: hoipolloi : July 3rd, 2011-11:24
Hey. It`s you huh. Very nice anh original Seamaster. I followed the auction all the way but did not attempt to buy (I know tt will cost me an arm or a leg.) Hi Bill. That dial is original. Look at this dial in the same era, caliber 352. the Cross hair is ...

Hoip.... Not 100% eitherway.. but that is all I will see...

 By: Bill Sohne : July 3rd, 2011-13:59
Hi Hoi My eye will catch that everytime I look t the watch and it would ruin it for me... totally a personal thing... Bill

At the price this watch went for

 By: MSNWatch : July 3rd, 2011-15:10
There should be zero doubt. Even 1% chance of a redial would be unacceptable. IMHO of course.

mike take a close look at the "Seamaster" script.

 By: Bill Sohne : July 3rd, 2011-17:55
Hi mike the S and the letter space between the S and a seems odd. The S character shape is interesting as well. What do you think ? Bill

I think it is a redial

 By: MSNWatch : July 3rd, 2011-18:27
The "S" to me is not as much a problem as the crosshairs. While the S looks abruptly cut off at the top it (together with the rest of the script) looks identical to the watch with the same dial style Desmond posted here before. I'm just saying a premium p...

Poor Pat.

 By: hoipolloi : July 3rd, 2011-18:48
Hah ha, Now, Pat must be worrying like hell. Hi Mike and Bill. By looking at the pristine movement, I still believe it's original (redial always goes with a bad shape movement) Let's wait a few more days to see. I am sure Desmond will join us when he wake...

Assuming?

 By: cicindela : July 3rd, 2011-20:12
I did not see the sale on this watch, but do you know that Pat does not know that it is a redial? Perhaps he is comfortable with the watch regardless. I have to admitt that I did not give the watch much of a look earlier, just the casual , "nice watch dud...

Cartouche dial

 By: hoipolloi : July 3rd, 2011-20:30
The OP of this thread will give the answer. I guess. home.watchprosite.com = Steve. I am not looking for crosshairs to make "rules" or "hypotheses" from them. There are too many exceptions. Will stay with hands and markers only. Do you have any? Best. Thi...

I can see in Desmond's example the cross hair appears centered ...

 By: Bill Sohne : July 3rd, 2011-20:48
hi Hoi Desmond's photo is not the most detailed but i can see the crosshair appears centered in comparison to pat's. Also its harder to make a call on the Seamaster Script but I get the feeling its different. Bill

i strongly disagree that a redial ALWAYS goes with a poor condition movement

 By: G99 : July 4th, 2011-02:02
i have a cal 561 connie with redial, but the case and movement are in excellent condition. i'm sorry Hoi, i dont want you to take what i'm about to say personally, it is more a comment on your opinion of your expertise. i read all the posts on the Omega p...

I should take "always" back then.

 By: hoipolloi : July 4th, 2011-05:08
Hi Graham. I think I am wrong when I use "always", I should have used "often" then. To me, I still think that dial is original. why don't we wait and see when Pat has it on his hands and give us details ? Best.

Hi Graham et al, In mitigation of Hoi's posts, we need to give him a bit of a break. He is multi-lingual and English is not his first language. His writing is admirable and quite precise for someone who is not writing in his mother tongue. I have noticed ...

extremely valid point made Desmond and i express my apologies to Hoi if i wrote anything which offended him. i always try to be fair. if i have deviated from that fairness i will be sure to rectify it in the future. best Graham

hoi, do not generalize, please ! redials can have very good movements....

 By: watch.out1 : July 5th, 2011-02:52
you can have a crack in the crystal and over years, the dial is bad. that still has nothing to do with the state of the movement. the right experienced watchmaker can always bring back the movement to shiny pink gold.... be careful with these unfounded an...

i think, it´s a very nice redial. something causemann would do.....

 By: watch.out1 : July 5th, 2011-04:44
the crosshair is not centered; but more important to me, the markers have been removed ( the thin tips point slightly up now...). and there is only one reason for removing the markers.... it is a very nice work, BTW. kind regards. achim

Ever observant Achim about the markers

 By: MSNWatch : July 5th, 2011-05:55
That's why I think many of us watched this auction but decided not to bid - the doubt (to varying degrees) about the dial's originality.

cross hair is not off on your watch, its the 9 oclock marker, its slightly aswek !

 By: Bill Sohne : July 3rd, 2011-17:53
hi hoi the cross hairs are fine looks where they cross the min tick marks. it looks like the 9 oclock marker is off. best bill

Genuine to me

 By: mondodec : July 4th, 2011-05:58
I asked the seller for a high res pic of dial before forrwarding on to Pat. I have it stored and you can click here and then click to enlarge to make a more detailed assessment. In comparing it with a high res pic of my dial I came to the conclusion that ...

double printing

 By: hoipolloi : July 4th, 2011-06:15
Hi Desmond. Talking about embossed letters made by double printing , I still can tell which one is genuine, which is double printed. Will email you the trick Best. Hoi

and the 7 o´clock marker.....

Sorry I'm late to the party, folks!

 By: gatorcpa : July 5th, 2011-08:08
With respect to the OP's "new" watch, in comparing the photos with Desmond's example, I noticed the following - 1. The hi-res picture shows that the angle of the photo is slightly to the right. This could cause the cross hairs to look worse than they are....

It is very hard to...

 By: mac_omega : July 4th, 2011-05:30
Hi Bill, it is very hard to make a final judgment - I have checked the picture with "my strongest specatcles" and I see what you mean... I am still not convinced that it is a redial. Apart from this very small deviation of the cross hair you mentioned the...

I am questiong it also....

 By: Bill Sohne : July 4th, 2011-05:42
Hi Erich I am questing it also. I am stating that the cross hairs would bother me every time I look at the watch. Plus Pat got this off of the bay at a stiff price. For me paying that type of $$ and having a dial imperfection I think I would have passed o...

I agree...

 By: mac_omega : July 4th, 2011-05:54
Hi Bill, I fully agree with you - this imperfection versus price paid is the issue... kind regards erich
