my impressions are that (1) the caseback looks too clean for a 50+ year old watch (no scratches, dings, dents, etc) compared to the rest of the watch and (2) as military and later police-issued watches and definitely non-civilian, I would think that they ...

The inside of the caseback is that for some reason the outside has been refinished.
I should never have sold this one!
But I couldn't resist the pull of a new Accutron way back when ;-)
