I love the OEM CF look strap that comes with the 253, but I decided I wanted something a bit more interesting. First, I went with a black elephant strap with blue stitching:
I love the blue stitching, but I missed the carbon fiber look and the way it matches the dial. I researched carbon fiber looking straps, but found that many looked incredibly cheap – almost plastic in appearance. My final decision came down to either the GSD Scoopster or the Manifatture Firenze Sport Tech. I have two GSD straps, and two more on order, and I think the world of Greg, but I found myself drawn more to the MF.
MF shows the Sport Tech strap on its website with white stitching and does not list any other color options, so I ordered it with white stitching (unaware that they do custom stitching upon request).
I was very impressed with the quality of the MF strap, and the texture and look of the carbon fiber. However, I really wanted blue stitching to match the chrono hand on the watch. I was discussing my quandary with Dean several weeks ago and he enlightened me that, even though MF’s website is silent regarding custom work, they will make custom straps upon request. I shot an e-mail over to Andrea and, sure enough, she agreed to make a Sport Tech strap for me using blue thread (which she does not stock).
I received my new MF strap with blue stitching a few days ago and I am very pleased with the outcome. It combines the blue stitching that I liked from the first strap with the carbon fiber look that I liked from the second strap:
