Too small

May 12, 2010,04:03 AM

Thank You FX for your review.
It's clearly a very nice size, the 45mm of the radiomir is too huge for me.

For the caliber, well, does anybody think that panerai is making his own caliber without the help of the richemont group ?

Thank you for your respons in advance for the finish...

The only bad point for me is that the caliber is small in that case, instead of the unitas / radiomir historic.

Live pics of the PAM 338

Thanks to Chronopassion, I had the opportunity to see a prototype of the PAM 338. If I understand you well, this 338 is a long awaited watch due to its very attractive specifications: - a case diameter of 42mm which reinforces its elegancy - a titanium ca...

Thank You!

... so much for this post! I have always loved the Radiomir but have been intimidated by the size. When I saw the pictures of the rosegold 336 version I started to dream about a white metal version. And when information about the 337 and 338 came and I sa...

My thoughts

I quote your words: But what is the story behind the movement? Could you elaborate on that topic. Do you mean it is a "copy"? Or is it a Piaget base caliber that Panerai just finishes to Panerai specification and style? I dont understand what you mean. I ...

Ok!

I see. So then it is not a necessarily a bad thing then, if the movement is based on a Piaget movement? Piaget are after all known for making good and thin movements, right? Actually I do not mind if the movement is inhouse or based on a reliable known mo...

Caliber 838P is an excellent caliber.

I am a fan ultra thin movements. Very happy owner of a JLC MUT 34 mm i SS. When I saw the pictures of the new Piaget ultra thin automatic movement shown at the latest shows I thought, wow, how beautiful is that!!! But I really love to wind my watch everyd...

I appreciate your post and insight on this model as this one is on my shortlist. On the whole caliber issue, I too have my doubts on why Panerai decided to market it as their own, specially because they could have taken advantage of Piaget's pedigree and ...

FX, thanks for this. Truthfully,

...realizing the Piaget roots of this movement draws me toward it even more! I wish they would have labeled it (and finished it) as a Piaget! Best, CaliforniaJed

Those calibers certainly do look alike!

 By: patrick_y : May 11th, 2010-22:34
Those calibers certainly do appear to be identical with the exception of that one bridge. I suspect you are correct! That in-house movement is not an in-house movement. Or, perhaps Piaget borrowed the movement from Panerai (this is equally unlikely). I'm ...

Being Valfleurier or Piaget, that's exactly the same thing...

Panerai " Manufacture " uses outsourced movements from the same Group ( Richemont ), so they can say they are a Manufacture. And to be honest, I don't see the problem, even if I would tend to say that the " Laboratorio de ideas " was a clearer, more trans...

A very balanced timepiece.

Thanks for the review. I didn't know what the great attraction of Panerai ... until seeing a picture of the 338. Seems as though I may have finally been bitten by the Panerai bug. How would you rate the finish of the movement? Thanks in advance for your r...

I will go for Piaget instead of PAM.

The movement is indeed a Piaget

I was informed of this even before SIHH 2010, but yes you are correct, OP should have been more transparent about it up front instead of claiming it to be an in-house manufacture. Thanks for the shots, best and clearest i'v seen of this beauty so far! Ste...

for this report.... this model is on my wishlist.... however, like others, I am perplexed that OP chose to describe it as in house when it is not..... I have no problem with it housing an outsourced movement.... they have done it in the pst quite successf...

If I were to own a radiomir, this would be the one. Looks so elegant and I am sure it would look awesome with a suit (especially since it is nice and thin as opposed to the "normal" panerais)

Thanks for sharing [nt]
