questions old vs. new

I was never a collector of Panerai; but, I've always admired the watch and historical significance.  That said, I noticed that watches that we could call "vintage" due to there tritium dial (but not really that old) are priced in the market much lower than modern pre-owned.  I presume the reason is that collectors prefer an in-house movement.  On the other hand, the watches from the 1990s, the last of tritium, I would expect to be priced at least the same.  Is the collector market disregarding these watches for the most part due to the lack of in-house movements?  Do you think this is a mistake and will be realized shortly?

Thank you

Some models attract collector attention and others remain on the sideline. Certainly true in Patek and Rolex.

than just a watch and it's market value. This one has to do with the bubble, created by the "exit" of the Panerai brand from the catacombs and entering main stream. A while back (difficult to point out a particular year) Panerai was a name..whispered..by ...

The brand is closing AD’s in cities that they own a boutique.

I was in Chicago and an AD has the entire Panerai display case marked 20% off. It turned out that their dealership for the brand was terminated and they have to discontinue carrying the brand. This doesn’t bode well for the value of the watch.

It's a natural result of the company's expansion.

A lot of brands LV, Armani, Versace, Rolex to name a few, have moved away from ADs in recent years. It makes an awful lot of sense, since this gives them the chance to choose their OWN marketing strategies. With all due respect for the ADs, which have gre...
