Officine Panerai

Buying my first PAM

Hi all,

As i woke up this morning I realized that I had had a dream during the night, in which I was wearing a Panerai on my left wrist. The obsession has gone too far, I though. I take this as my sub-conscience telling me "enough, do something about it already, I can't take it anymore!" (been thinking bout it since I backed out of buying a 112 in July -09).

So, I decided to regard it as a sign and went to see my local A.D in Stockholm (the only A.D in Sweden, actually, local or not...). I was gonna give them a down payment in order to register as a customer in the waiting line for a PAM 112/000/111 - however, as I got there they informed me that they had a 112 for sale. I tried it and it was, as I remembered it.

When they said they'd toss an additional OEM-strap in for free they basically won me over. I have 2 days to think about it, got it put aside, but I'm pretty sure about what I'll decide.

Just some quick questions, since I'm a new to both Panerai and exclusive mechanical timepieces in general.

1. I noticed some, what I guess is usually called, hairlines on the left side of the case. They assured me that they would remove them once I decide to buy the watch. Is this normal, i mean, that a piece has some minor hairlines or so - should I be content with their assurance with no effect on the price?

2. Since I'm new to both Panerai and more exclusive mechanical timepieces in general, have you got any input on what to regard considering the buyer-seller relation?

3. Are there any reasons I haven't thought about that I should stay cool and wait for any news presented at SIHH2010?

4. I forgot to ask/notice what series it is, however, they informed me it was produced in 2008 according to them, as piece 17xx/2000. Does that tell you anything?

5. Regarding additional strap, I would love to get suggestions of nice OEM straps from you guys - with pics if possible. Since it is delivered with matte black pretty basic strap (+rubber strap), I'm leaning towards a strap in alligator leather in dark brown color, which in my opinion would be nice for more elegant approach, for more formal occasions.

I've gotten some input from elsewhere but I'd be delighted to get any feedback from some of you experienced Paneristis - and please share OEM strap pics if you have any! For me this is not one watch out of 10 I'm buying this year - so wanna get it as right as I can smile.

I appreciate your time in case you have a little feedback/suggestions.
