104 or 171
The 104 is a terrific entry point into Panerai, you can make the watch what ever you want with just a few simple strap changes. Throw a black strap on the 104 you're at a black tie affair; something in a light vintage brown and you're hanging on a boat with friends drinking your favorite beverage; something a little funky colored, you're in Vegas.
My original choice prior to obtaining my 233 & 249 was the 177, I had my heart set on it. All I can say is make sure you see a Ti watch in person, I was not all that impressed with the appearance of the Ti look. Try before you by is very important, at least make sure you see some Ti Pannys of some kind, in person.
