My grail clock just received. JLC calibre 528/8.
I share the penultimate lot at a recent London online auction. I left a bid at the maximum I was willing to pay because I needed to go out well before the auction had finished. I was frankly surprised when I much later checked the website that I had "won". Thus, according to my auction theory, the market value of this clock is the unsuccessful underbidder's offer, which was Β£100 less than my bid!. So I went to London on Monday with my packing materials with a Karrimor semi-rigid case (with important internal strapping) to handle this delicate clock. Taxi and train journey home avoiding all stairs and bumps.
Now in place on a bookcase filled with heavy law reports for stability. The old globe ornament resting on top for added weight and my reminiscence of a "handle" on a table/carriage clock! Devilish to set level, but very necessary to stop the rotating pendulum from wobble. Time-keeping is currently spot on. Excellent amplitude with 120 bph (60htz) frequency. Early 1973 manufacture. Mesmerising or calming to watch!
Both hands have tarnished tips. Minutes hand yes with decades of gloveless finger-skin acid of the periodic hand-setting but why the minutes hand tarnish, which should never have been touched?
