Purpose built to satisfy the military specification (Mk. 11 specification). Purely for the RAF and RAAF, too. No civilian versions of the JLC.
While the cal.P478 BWSBr in the Geophysic E168
evolved from the cal. 488 SBr in the E161, the E168 does not fulfill the Ministry of Defense's Mk. 11 specs (nor was it mean to) so we can't say it's the civilian version of the Mark 11. A descendant maybe, but definitely not a civilian Mark 11. ...

A great design decision from JLC and functional, too. It makes it easier for the aircrew navigators with gloves on to wind and set the watch.
