Tribute to Amanico and PoyFr !
Mar 06, 2021,11:34 AM
A watch I dreamed of while reading everything I could find about the creation of the Tribute to Polaris.
Not having been able to find it in France when it was released, I even made the trip to Spain to pick it up.
It had this particular dial with salmon index. An incorrect dial for which I had received a letter in Spanish telling me that I could change it ...
Letter whose translation here is probably imperfect since I do not speak Spanish:
" Dear Madam, Dear Sir,
Launched in 1965, the Memovox Polaris is still today one of the most famous and emblematic diving watches of the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture. For this reason, it is natural that the Grande Maison de la Valée de Joux pays tribute to this fantastic watch.
The Memovox Tribute To Polaris was born from the common desire and desire of collectors and the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture. Faithful to the original reissue, this piece incorporates all the aesthetic points of this legendary watch.
You have just purchased one of the first pieces of this reissue. However, due to an error made in the manufacture of its dial, the aesthetics of the piece differ slightly from the historical piece.
In order not to delay delivery of it and to deprive you of this magnificent timepiece during the holiday period, we suggest that you take possession of it from now on, giving you the possibility of subsequently changing the dial in order to resume the aesthetics of the historical piece. This change will, of course, be made free of charge each time you request it, by presenting this letter, before December 31, 2009".
I went to the Paris boutique and ask to keep this dial and to get the right one. With a help of one of my mother's friend who worked for Richemont, I succed.
Have to find the other dial which is somewhere in one of my many moving boxes in my storage room to make a picture of the two dials.
Dear Amanico and dear PoyFr, I cannot thank you enough for having worked for the rebirth of this watch, the vintage version of which was offered to me by my grandfather shortly before his death and of which I dreamed as a child when I saw it on his wrist .
The Tribute to Polaris is a sort of Proust's madeleine for me. It allows me to enjoy this model on a daily basis, which I really like, while preserving the original that I showed my daughters by asking them to pass it on to their descendants to perpetuate this memory. After all that suits him well since it is a memovox ... and it is therefore a question of memory ...
Thanks again
Best O
