I agree, and disagree, as you don't always need a chrono to measure some events, so, why not?
The movement is the Cal 862, indeed.
As for the codification, the first 3 numbers are related to the model, the following numbers are related to the case material and bracelet ( or strap ) material, and the last numbers are about the color of the dial.
