Warning: The following is what I believe to be true, based upon reading about Reverso strap issues at various websites, and upon my own experiences.. But I could be mistaken about a few (or several!) points.
1. You asked if there’s anything special about Reverso Tribute straps. Yes, there is, and it holds true for some other Reversos, too: In order to prevent the sharp lug ends from sticking out beyond the strap on narrow-wristed people, JLC uses a plastic insert near the strap ends which prevents the strap from dropping from the lug at a severe angle. The result is that the strap adds as a kind of lug end protector. This adds thickness to the strap end, which also helps the strap visually match the watch’s lugs. So, if you’re considering a third-party strap, make sure that the material is quite thick, in order to ensure it performs the same function as JLC’s plastic insert.
2. The matter of a replacement Casa Fagliano strap requires distinguishing between two types of Fagliano straps. JLC has made this situation confusing.
a. “Fagliano Collection” straps. (JLC flags these straps by saying in descriptions that they are “designed by” Fagliano.)
These straps, such as the one on the current blue and burgundy Reverso Tribute Small Seconds and on some Duos, feature Fagliano’s famous fold-over-at-lug-end design, but they are NOT made by Fagliano in Argentina and they are NOT made with shell cordovan leather. These straps are available for purchase from JLC. I know because I bought a replacement blue calfskin strap for my Blue Small Seconds through a JLC boutique here in the USA. The strap reference number is QC05862Z, if you’re interested. (That is QC ZERO… and not QC Oh…)
b. Fagliano-made straps. (JLC flags these straps by specifically stating in descriptions that they are made by Fagliano in Argentina.)
Straps made by Fagliano were used on selected Reversos, such as the 1931 US Special Edition from 2011-2012, the chocolate Reverso, and the current blue Tribute Duoface Fagliano Limited. It is my understanding that Fagliano-made straps are available only by contacting Casa Fagliano directly. I couldn’t find any mention of these items at the Fagliano website www.casafagliano.com , but I used their Contact email address to successfully inquire about Reverso straps in the past. These straps can be made with shell cordovan or calfskin and in various colors, at the purchaser’s choice. I highly recommend their shell cordovan!
