There is a true tradition at " La Grande Maison ", with the perpetual calendars.
I will try to treat each of them post by post, and will begin by the Grande Memovox.
..........................
The Come Back of an old friend : The Master Grande Memovox.
What a great pleasure to see it again!
A bit like a trip in the good old time, when I saw it first in late 2001.
I made a quick review of the Perpetual Calendars and alarm, so here's the link for those who want to know more about this stunning combo:
So, the one I saw in late 2001 and again some days ago is, as the title says, the platinum version...
In 2001/ 2002, when I saw it first, I was thinking that it was too big, even if I found it very elegant.
The case is 41,5mm, and the thickness is quite important ( 15, 5 mm ), not to speak of the weight, which is impressive, due to the platinum, and I decided to pass on it...
But, in 2001, there were few watches with a diameter bigger than 40mm. So times changed a lot, as now, 44mm is a current size, and as the new Master Grand Reveil in now 43 mm, and 16mm thick!
So, my feeling was a bit different when I saw it again a few days ago.
The contact is something very pleasant...
The platinum case and this blue " soleillé " dial is awesome, you immediately get that you're seeing a quality piece with a very good finish.
The 2 crowns on the right side of the case, without nothing on the left side gives a better impression than when you see the 1st Edition of the Grand Reveil from 1989/ 1992....
In better words, there is more balance, more class in this configuration.
A Class, once again, really enhanced by the combo platinum case / deep blue fascinating dial
Here, a closer look to the dial with its 8 ( !!! ) hands: Minute, hour, alarm, seconds, night and day indicator, date, day, and month....
With a window for the year, and a moonphase, this is a complete Perpetual Calendar.
Even with all these informations and hands, the watch is easily legible, which is not the case witrh all the Perpetual Calendars...
The Blue strap is equipped with a platinum folding buckle, which makes me wonder why this is not the case with the new Platinum JLC watches, which come with a WG buckle ( MMR, and Master 8 Days PC, for example, but also Platinum Amvox II ).
The bad point is the case back, as I'd prefer to get the choice between the sapphire case back ,and the solid one...
Here we only get a solid case back, maybe due to the alarm????
So, the interesting and funny thing is to see again a piece you were thinking about some years ago, and the evolution in your mind about it.
IMHO, a very nice perpetual calendar, which deserved a quick view, IMHO.
Hope you enjoyed it.
Best.
