Jaeger-LeCoultre

In the Thirties and Fourties, Jaeger Lecoultre made some double and triple calendars, even with a moonphase. 

These watches are among the most elegant vintage Jaeger Lecoultre, especially the round triple calendar. 

But Jaeger Lecoultre came with a less famous single date, in the early Fifties, more precisely between 1952 and 1954. 

While other brands came with a circular date with a dedicated hand pointing on it, Jaeger Lecoultre opted for another solution: An arrow pointer, located on a disc, which is coupled to the hour hand, but a date which can also be quickly set through a discrete pusher based in the winding crown. Astute and friendly, even more if you have in mind that at that time, and during many years after, setting the date is a fastidious exercize. 

The Calendar Disc- but nobody is sure of the real name, as the only one I found was " montre calendrier " in a french ad, which means Calendar Watch- is a very sober watch, whose aesthetics make you immediately think of the Memovox, certainly because of this central disc. 

Sober, but elegant and original at the same time. 

The case is brushed on the sides, 33 mm big, but wears largely bigger ( 35 / 36 mm ), due to its slender profile and these thin lugs. 

There was a Lecoultre version ( hence for the US Market ), whose profile is less elegant, I must say, at least on the only specimen I saw. 

And several Jaeger Lecoultre versions, cases and dials. Those I could see were in steel and in yellow gold, with the same dial, Ref 2777. 

I wonder how many were made, because I only saw, in the real world, 5. 3 in steel, 2 in gold. Much less than the more famous Geophysic, Deep Sea Alarm or Polaris. 

The Calendar Disc has a snap back case, and its reference is 2777. 

The dial is top elegant. Applied numbers and baton indices, slim and long dauphine hours and minutes hands, steel pointed for the date, darker alarm disc, and the slight touch of life lies in the circular blue date. 

The movement is manual winding, the Cal P 810 ( P indicating that it is shock protected ), beating at the pace of 18, 000 vibrations per hour, and nicely decorated, with Geneva Stripes, and bevels. The power reserve is around 42 hours. 

That being said, let's see some pictures. The one I could take in picture is in superb condition, which helps a lot in the appreciation of the watch, which was not the case of all those I could see. 

Here, the case, dial and movement appear to be pristine. I wonder if any watchmaker touched the movement, by the way. 

 

So now you know this reference and watch. Less glamorous than the Triple Date posted above with its spectacular black dial and teardrop lugs, but not less appealing. And original with its pusher dedicated to the setting of the date.
