Jaeger Lecoultre Amvox III: The " poor man's " Extreme Lab One?

May 06, 2020,22:19 PM

Ok, we have many differences between the Amvox III and the Extreme Lab One:

- The case, slightly bigger ( 44 mm / 45 mm )  more technical  with for the Extreme Lab One with a different shape, materials and the Compressor Crown. A different water resistance, with 50 meters for the Amvox III and 100 meters for the Extreme Lab One.

Amvox III Boutique Edition:

Extreme Lab One:

- The oil free movement of the Extreme Lab One, while the only common point between these two is the rotor.

Extreme Lab One:

But if you compare these two, there is an obvious air de famille:

- The complications are the same: Tourbillon, GMT, Jumping date.

- Some common points of design for the dial, as well...

- Last, and surprising, the Boutique Edition of the Amvox III Titanium Ceramic Case may well be as rare as the Extreme Lab One, with only 35 pieces.

The Extreme Lab One was unveiled in 2007, while the Boutique Edition of the Amvox III came in 2011.

Being at least 7 times less expensive than the Extreme Lab One, the Amvox III Boutique Edition can be considered as the poor man's Extreme Lab, certainly less technically innovative and interesting, but it is far from being neglected.

Best,

Nicolas

Although I like the Amvox 3, I just don't think of the EL1 when I see it...

And I actually prefer the Amvox 2 and 7 over the 3 and 5 due to the crystal actuated chronograph function. The Amvox 3 is an amazing watch for sure, just not an EL1 or EL2 for me 🤷‍♂️ Now let's hope for an EL3 😉

Hehehe... The confusion is due to...

The name: ...

I understand the name but always thought the "Compressor" system was the semi-turn locking crown to seal it. Did not know the EL2 had a Compressor system as the crown is permanently sealed..

So the crown is only functional with the push button. Are you saying the push button function acts like the semi-turn locking system on the other Compressor models? Just trying to understand how it works on the EL2 🤷‍♂️

Ah ok. But that was what I thought as well. I just did not know it was called a "compressor" crown...

The button acts as a selector for the functionality and usage of the crown in multiple positions without having to pull it out. And yes, without having to pull out the crown, the seal remains in tact at all time 👍 Now we agree and I understand 😉

From my understanding of the EL2, the crown does not have multiple positions. It rests in only 1 position and the selector button changes the functionality of the crown and watch...

at least that is what my watch does. No screw down crown or seal to worry about. And if I am not mistaken, the EL2 stays sealed until it is opened up for service

Yes they could 👍 [nt]

Yes it is the same model but slightly different as well. And from my understanding, the RED version incorporated antimagnetic components (silicon type) whereas the gold version did not. I remember JLC saying that they could not guarantee consistent time k...

You are right about the gold version. But the silicon escapement did not survive to the proto, even the definitive red.
