Is the Jaeger Lecoultre Extreme Lab II durable and sustainable enough as a daily watch?

Nov 12, 2022,19:44 PM

I am thinking of selling my Rose Gold Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Flyback Chrono and my Two Toned Rolex GMT Master II Rootbeer to fund the purchase of a Rose Gold JLC Extreme Lab II. I would be wearing the Extreme Lab II daily and am curious to hear from others of they think the watch is durable and tough enough as a daily wearer? Beyond wearing in an office environment, I would be gardening, swimming, playing golf, biking, etc. with this watch. Also I understand that it is a large watch; I have big wrist and don't mind the size. After selling the BP and Rolex to fund the purchase my collection would consist of the Breitling Aerospace Evo and the JLC Extreme Lab II. What are your thoughts?

I love the extreme lab 2

But I would personally keep the rootbeer, it's too beautifull to let go and certainly more versatile than this amazing piece of horological tech. Having both the Extreme Lab 2 and the GMT would be perfect

+1 on the root beer! ;-)

It's my 2nd time owning the rootbeer

And I just don't feel like I love the Rootbeer. Especially when compared to the fifty fathoms. However the Rootbeer is the only watch I own with a full bracelet.

+ 1

The curved caseback can dig into flat wrists (regardless of the size). If it doesn’t dig into your wrist, then I’d say go for it (wholeheartedly).

Thanks!

I hope to find a rose gold version in new / great condition within the next few months. They are sparse though

6-7 years of ownership, 3 trips to JLC for service

Avg every 2 years! And thats "gross" and includes the trip and repair time . Don't do that!

Just to confirm you had to send the EL2 in for service 3 times?

What issues did you have with the watch?

Correct.

One time Rotor stuck. 2 other times the watch would just stop! As much as I love the EX lab concept and wrist comfort (and JLC), it is a watch I wouldn't recommend, definitely not as a daily watch.

The EL2 is a great and durable daily but.....

The ceramic bezel and rubber bumpers on both sides are awesome for a daily wear, they take most of the regular bumps and knocks doing a great job of protecting the case. As someone else noted though, at some point my EL2 just stopped running, not from any...

Nope, that's part of the genius of the fixed crown!

Never have to worry about forgetting to screw in the crown. It's really kind of amazing, the only other watches I can think of using push button mode selector are RM and the AP concept pieces. I really appreciate it since I'm starting to doubt the water r...
