Information on the Gran'Sport Chronographe

I am the proud new owner of my first JLC, a gran'sport chronographe and have been looking for more information on the caliber 859 movement. All I have been able to find is reviews of the case, bracelet, and externally visible functionality, but I would love if anyone has knowledge, and/or photos, of its internals. Additionally I would have been trying to find the differences between the precursor of the caliber 859, the limited edition caliber 829.

Obviously there is the difference in base materials (rose gold Vs. steel?) but I have also noticed in the press photos of the caliber 829 it is stamped on the reverse side (the chronographe side) 36 jewels in some photos, and 37 jewels on others. In the booklet for the caliber 859 it is listed to have 38 jewels. Does anyone have any idea of what changed and why in the development of the caliber 859?

Additionally, I am eager to hear your opinions of the finish and design of this movement compared to other chronographs of similar status (you tell me what you consider to be its peers).

I am absolutely in love with this timepiece and am seeking to expand my understanding of how this great watch came to be.

Thanks for all insight,

Ethan Stead.

Hi Jaws, Thanks for the info. I also think that the GranSport Chronographs are under-rated. It's on my short list of watches to get. Are there other rectangular chronographs with column wheel? Thanks. enrico t
