I would love to see this watch. Only 37-38 mm. Call me old fashioned.

The need for a new Geophysical year in 2009!

 By: Dje : April 27th, 2009-11:34
I've had the pleasure to acquire two vintage Jaeger-leCoultre watches since the beginning of this year. I've not shown much of these watches as they need some work to recover their glorious lust. They're in fact leaving this Tuesday for a full refit (hope...

be careful what you wish for...

 By: time2tic : April 27th, 2009-12:34
I would not be ruprsed if a re-edition in some form and shape of the gephysic would soon surface to make us all happy. (I personally wish that it does not come in a MC case). looking forward to see what future brings us...

Some thoughts, Jerome.

 By: amanico : April 27th, 2009-13:31
First of all, huge congrats for this very nice " Doublé ". The Vintage Calendar is something I seriously have in my mind, but I have other very urgent priorities to deal with, so I will have to delay it a bit. What to say about the Geomatic I didn't alrea...

Mix and match

 By: aaronm : April 27th, 2009-19:26
I think if they could take the excellent double-barrel movement from the 8-day movements and use it in the same way Journe does in the CS, two barrels for even power, not long running time, they could get Nico's 72 hours of runtime and not have to start f...

Why 72 hours?

 By: Dje : May 1st, 2009-10:05
Hi, Do we really need a 72 hours power reserve? As it is a manual wind watch, a serious user should wind it everyday, so do we really need more than the 38 hours of the Richard Lange? I'm not against 72 or 96 hours, or more, but a long power reserve is ge...

72 hours is a usability thing

 By: aaronm : May 1st, 2009-10:32
72 hours of PR means it can be a "weekday" watch, that you needn't wind during the weekend. I think using the 2 barrels of the cal. 875, but geared for precision rather than 8 days, would give you a flat enough torque curve for 3 days A

I shall be firm on my opinions! :-)

 By: Dje : May 1st, 2009-10:01
Hi Nicolas, Thank you for your comments; I too don't think we'll see a re-edition for the Geophysic like it happened with the Polaris. Regarding a possible re-interpretation of the watch, as you know I disagree with your opinion. I don't see the Geophysic...

What I would expect from the comeback of the Geophysic

 By: Marv : April 28th, 2009-05:12
The geophysic was originally designed for scientists, engineers, technicians. If this iconic watch comes back in the JLC collection, I would expect to see a "technical" watch with some of the latest enhancements successfully tested on the Extreme Lab, suc...

I agree, Marv...

 By: Tony C. : April 28th, 2009-08:18
you're basic notion of emphasizing the original elements of the Geophyisic coincides with mine. And I also agree that 38mm would be the perfect compromise. And while Nicolas had many valuable things to say, "Add a big see through case back." is one with w...

to me Nicolas is right

 By: PoyFR : April 28th, 2009-09:53
If such a watch/movement is to be presented by JLC to also compete with the finishing of Lange und Sohne or FP Journe and others, it would be inevitable to this time show what JLC is capable of via a ‘see-through-back’ (I am not a fan of see-through-back,...

I'd be delighted to see the movement...

 By: Tony C. : April 28th, 2009-11:13
on a Geophysic homage, as long as the sapphire is antimagnetic! ;>)`

On a chronometer I would be delighted too...

 By: PoyFR : April 28th, 2009-12:03
I was referring to Nico's post, and Jerome stated he did not see feasible a re-issued JLC Geophysic and or JLC Geomatic as one missed out a possible 50 th anniversary and the other was not planned or scheduled. Otherwise like you I would be delighted with...

What about the GO Senator?

 By: Starman : April 28th, 2009-12:37
It has a see through back and is said to be anti magnetic? Same for some of the Sinn models. I suppose every watch is a little bit anti magnetic. Best, Starman

Yes but as Nicolas is wrong.....

 By: Dje : May 1st, 2009-10:11
Hi, As we know that nicolas is wrong why should JLC make a Lange finish on this watch? They can make a nice finish, but if it is to make a Richard Lange copy (probably at a close price as a consequence of the finish), I doubt it would sell. And I personal...

Valid point, Tony

 By: Marv : April 28th, 2009-12:29
My opinion is also that a see through case back would be a non sense for the re-issue of a Geophysic line. And I agree with you that IWC delegitimated the name Ingenieur with the display back on the latest models. Now, let's consider a model with a differ...

Scan of a vintage booklet

In order to illustrate our thoughts, here is a scan of the 1961 catalog where a double-page was dedicated to the Geophysic....

We could have one new calibre and two watches

 By: Dje : May 1st, 2009-10:14
Hi, We could indeed have two watches with the same calibre. One would be the Geophysic modern issue, like you and I suggest, the other being Nicolas' choice of a chronometric Master! That would be nice. Cheers Dje

Are we sure, Tony, that all the JLC Chronometers were antimagnetic?

 By: amanico : April 28th, 2009-13:21
That is an interesting point, my friend. I'm not sure at all that the Geomatic was antimagnetic. And even on the Geophysic, the " Deluxe " version, if I'm not wrong, didn't have a dust cover. I get your point, Tony. And you really make me think if, finall...

Details...

 By: Tony C. : April 28th, 2009-15:23
Nicolas my friend, I was referring only to the original Geophysic (ref. E168), which was of course antimagnetic and featured a soft iron dial and cap. You are absolutely correct that there was another version (ref. 2985) which was marketed to civilians, a...

modern geomatic

 By: Clavi : April 28th, 2009-16:07
[quote] From a strict marketing perspective, I have little doubt that your idea would be appealing. However, being something of a purist (no pun intended), I'd prefer that they not associate any such contemporary model with the iconic Geophysic. Perhaps a...

Agree, Clavi

 By: amanico : April 28th, 2009-22:09
Why not just calling it: " Le Chronometre "? Simple, sobrr, but powerful at the same time. Best, Nicolas

We are on the same line, Tony

 By: amanico : April 28th, 2009-22:36
Agree with you that the Geophysic ( E 168 ) is purer than its " brothers ". The lack of Date, these long indexes, the fatter hands give a lot of character to the Geophysic, indeed. A for the name, I wouldn't either touch at the Geomatic, by the way. I wou...

Very true words there Marv

 By: Starman : April 28th, 2009-12:32
You are describing exactly the watch I am looking for. A year ago I set my hopes at the comeback of the wonderfull IWC Ingenieur, which I think is quite comparabel to the Geophysic don't you agree (and it was not only made for engineers, it was even named...

Oops, I repeated what everybody allready posted.

 By: Starman : April 28th, 2009-12:34
Have to read your guys posts first next time. Cheers, Starman

Thanks for your opinion

 By: Dje : May 1st, 2009-10:08
Hi, Specially as I agree with everything you write..... Don't know if 38 would be enough, but that would be nice! Cheers Dje

I hear what you are all saying; I'm seeing "a new BP 7002"

 By: cazalea : April 28th, 2009-13:17
This kind of watch done in a JLC fashion .... with center seconds or small; your choice....

Fine example, Mike! [nt]

 By: amanico : April 28th, 2009-22:11
No message body

Wow, I'm a sucker for BP

 By: Starman : April 29th, 2009-12:47
What a great looking watch that is. Please tell me some more about this 7002? And well if JLC hears you (or BP for that matter I do prefer a central second hand please). Best, Starman

Hi, Jerome!

 By: AlexSunrise : October 6th, 2009-11:12
I have confirmation from a very reliable source that we will infact get a Geophysic in 2010! It will be the same concept, but brought up to date as far as size and technical improvements and specifications. Hope this juicy information helps! Cheers, Alex

Interesting

 By: Dje : October 7th, 2009-01:47
Hi Alex, This is juicy indeed ! Thank you for this news. I hope to see a new Geophysioc that lives up to its name! Cheers Dje
