Great post Dje. So does the new lubrication-free

Feb 01, 2010,06:30 AM

mean an end to servicing or simply an extension of time between recommend service intervals? If the latter, has JLC recommended a service interval?

It is technically an amazing achievement but just not to my taste. I hope the technologies found in these 'Extreme Lab' pieces (such as the lubricant-free escapement) will eventually trickle down to the rest of the range!

Thanks,
Bill.

SIHH 2010: Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Extreme LAB2, a new chronograph for extreme expeditions!

 By: Dje : January 31st, 2010-11:22
Jaeger-LeCoultre aims at positioning itself as the most inventive manufacture of high horology. In a world of marketing such positioning can often be doubtful but in the world of horology that we all here like and that fascinates us Jaeger-leCoultre may w...

I will honestly say it: At the beginning, I was not mad at all for this watch. Yes, it is a strong watch, and as every strong watch, it won't be everyone's taste. But is it such a bad thing? I mean, if all the brands began to release watches for everybody...

I can already imagine...

a "toned-down" version with solid dial and a cleaner look. It shows how amazing JLC is. If the dial read, "PP" or "AP" people would be lined up at the door. There is something that JLC needs to do (and they ARE trying) to "catch" that audience and buyer, ...

A simpler dial and I'm done, indeed.

 By: amanico : February 1st, 2010-05:53
I understand the JLC point through the design of this watch, but I would love to see a cleaner dial, more sober. Well, as it is, it is already a Beast. Best, Nicolas

Well said Nicolas! nt

After a few days of "living" with the concept of this watch I am firmly in the camp of loving it. As is so often the case with extreme, sports, and concept watches (and this one is all three), I personally do not get the RG version at all, however handsom...

I continue to be fascinated by this watch.

It will be a really interesting afternoon when I finally get to spend some time with it, eventually... I;m hugely intrigued by these watches, and still visually prefer the rg in pics.

So do I! nt

I was also impressed by the watch once I saw it in person. I agree with you that legibility of the dial is better from slightly farther away than it is very close-up. The way the numerals float above the dial-side of the movement helps in reading the time...

Excellent report, Jerome!

It's a big watch at 46.8mm, but it fits on my 6.5" wrist just fine. The strap system is amazing!...

Thank you very much Allen

From the photos: I am dispointed by this watch. not because of its looks, or name or caracterisitcs but because of its huge potential which I found a bit spoiled here. Don't get me wrong, it is still a fantastic watch ! The case design is fabulous, the ca...

Hi, So far JLC did not specify anything about servicing. I'm sure this watch will need to be serviced, probably not as often. Hopefully yes we will see this silicium escapement in more affordable watches (it was already in the yellow gold Master Grande Tr...

Thanks for your great report, Jerome and Nicolas. JLC has been very creative, once again. I like their take not only to put haute horlogerie complications like tourbillons in a sport watch but to think of new sports-watch specific high-end complications. ...

Thank you for your comments

 By: Dje : February 4th, 2010-13:13
Hi, i understand your points but IMO this watch is also intended to be so much more affordable than the Extreme LAB1 that it ould not have been possible to go beyond the 1, not even as far. They have chosen a different path, in a more affordable package. ...

Great explanation of a very innovative watch at JLC ...

Thanks a bunch for such a detailed report - especially regarding the differences between the PG and TI version. Did not know that the specifications would be different...very interesting. Has the MSRP been published for the two pieces yet?

My pleasure

Being a newby here, I just wondered; I thought the compressor reference was made with regard to the case back, using a compressor method to make it water tight? If so, the reference is legitimate, isn't it?

It has indeed something to see with Water Resistance, BUT ...

Historically, you're totally right, Compressor and Super Compressor were used from a Patent whose owner was Mr Piquerez, in March 56. And yes, it was about the case. A case which was used in the 60ies / 70ies by a lot of brands at this moment, such as Lon...
