A black beauty …

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 10th, 2010-09:11
Many of us here are drawn to both the Memovox’s and the black dialled JLC’s. So what can be better then a black memovox? Soon JLC will start to deliver a new black dialled memo – the Master Memovox International And while we wait, I thought I should write...

I love your way to kill the time...

 By: amanico : April 10th, 2010-09:49
That's cruel from you, as I am hunting one so badly... A must have, IMO, as it is not only beautiful, but it also has this unique ( on a Memovox ) sapphire case back. Will we again see a Manual Winding Memovox, too? Best, and thanks for this superb post. ...

Well Nicolas…

What a poor guy to do when he can’t get what he wants..? It releases some of the itches but it’s not enough! Soon I will have to pull the trigger on something while I wait for the memo international…!!! Talking about cruel? I think you of all people shoul...

Take a breathe, keep cool, you will have to fund the Memovox International, and maybe save a bit for some Vintage Beauties? Like a Deep Sea Alarm, for example? Did I say something? Meee? Sure? Best, 666.

I know, I know…

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 11th, 2010-00:35
You are right, again! That is what I should do… But the itch really starting to get to me! Best Blomman

very nice summary in a few lines...

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 10th, 2010-10:21
Every memo has a slightly different sound from the others. That is one of the beauties of the memos imo. Hope you will have the possibility to listen too many of them on your trip! One day I would love to here (and have) them all Best Blomman

Blomman, please, can you also take some additional pics of the packaging?

 By: amanico : April 10th, 2010-12:55
I'm interested about some details... Looks very nice! Best, and TIA. Nicolas

Yes, the red details are great! They are even more legible IRL then on the photos. Almost like it’s a red glow around the inside of the bezel Best Blomman

I wonder how.....

 By: DRMW : April 11th, 2010-01:16
Hello Blomman, have you considered a black strap with red deviated stitching to go with this bad boy? I think it would be even cooler! -MW

Yes I have…

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 11th, 2010-01:25
And I agree with you that it would probably be even cooler! But I am still waiting for some straps I ordered some time ago, if they turnout OK… One thing that makes me hesitate is that it’s a small watch and narrow strap. Only 18mm strap, maybe the red st...

I would agree about the dark brown strap, as shown here...

 By: KenMNYC : April 12th, 2010-04:31
I wouldn't expect it, but there's something warm about the brown strap setting off the black/white dial. I think JLC made a nice design choice when showing them this way. By the way, your black/red Memo is very cool, but quite dressy. Perhaps you don't wa...

Thanks Ken!

Now I have yet another piece that attracts my desire - this is the first time I've seen it. Truly lovely, thanks for sharing. --Sancerre

Hello Sancerre!

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 11th, 2010-02:02
Yes, this is imo a very attractive piece Especially if you are into memovoxes. The only downside with this one, I think is the size… 36mm is pretty small if you are used to the divers memos 42mm. Best Blomman

Thanks for the post

 By: jml_watches : April 10th, 2010-14:53
Great post I'm intrigued by the packaging - seems different to other JLCs of the era - was under the impression in was a big blue box in a blue box! Was also interested by comment about gong - mine seems the alternate way round. Which is the definitive in...

Hi JML

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 11th, 2010-02:21
It seams that both our watches have the same positioning of the gong. Dje's, yours, mine... I really like the brown strap – that is similar to how JLC displayed the watch from the beginning. Black dial with brown croc starp. Thanks for sharing! Best Blomm...

Here's mine - now it's 2-2

 By: cfn : April 11th, 2010-11:34
Very interesting thread - and it's fun to see the packaging. Here you see the display back of my black memovox. Amazing that it can be constructed in 2 different ways... Best, Claus...

Interesting…

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 11th, 2010-11:46
It’s very strange – only explanation I can think of is that the gong is only mounted on the crystal and not on the movement. Yours are 180 degrees opposite my gong. That means your hammer hits the “loose” end of the gong while mine hits the “steady” side....

A theory...

 By: cfn : April 11th, 2010-12:03
As far as I can see, the gong is mounted on the display glass. It could be that 2 of the 4 watches have had some kind of service and had their display back put back 'the wrong way'? Best, Claus

Could be…

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 11th, 2010-12:08
When you think about it – the Memovox text are equally positioned according to the gong on all four. I think maybe you have solved the mystery, Claus! Thanks, now I can sleep safe tonight ! Best Blomman

Claus, do you have your box?

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 12th, 2010-14:32
Do you still have your box to your watch? It sounds like JML doesn’t have his. Why I am asking is that I would like to get it confirmed – started to think about it, and I have never seen a box like mine before, fore any of the JLC’s. If ...

That Memo is always a crowd pleaser

 By: respo : April 10th, 2010-15:15
Beautiful, manual wind, and the only one with the see though caseback (right?). I will add my voice to the interest in the packaging as well (the blue "bag") -- let's see more of that. Thanks again for another great review. respo

Thank you, Respo!

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 11th, 2010-02:24
Yes, it’s the only memo with see through case back. Best Blomman

Certainly one to see and hear in the flesh.

...about a fantastic watch! I think your Memovox is one of the greatest versions of the watch ever made. The display back is so intriguing. Thanks for sharing it with us! Cheers, Daos

Happy you like …

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 11th, 2010-02:32
This watch Daos! Yes, the case back is very intriguing – especially when it reveals different positioning of the gong! Best Blomman

Great post indeed

Great story and I can't waite until they start delivering the Master Memovox Intertnational. I guess it's because I ordered one. Best regards, George

You to George? :-)

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 11th, 2010-02:38
I ordered mine on the 30 th of Nov last year… As you can tell I really start to get restless about it. I want it, and I want it now!!! Best Blomman

Patience

 By: grigo : April 11th, 2010-11:11
I'm actually a very patient guy and don't mind waiting for a watch to arrive. When I was lucky enought to fall on a 68 Polaris and buy it, my wife made we waite nine months to give it to me for my birthday. I'm not missing anything in the watch area so I ...

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 11th, 2010-11:37
Patience kind of guy. But when it comes to watches… It’s a totally different story! Wait 9 months with the watch at home? I would go crazy! I would make up any kind of excuse to open it sooner! Like I better open it and check it works alright ...

nice info.

 By: garfield26 : April 11th, 2010-00:52
Thanks for a nice information. Actually, I'm looking forward to try on this model (Memovox International) really soon. Cheers....

Yes, me too!

Here is some additional info…

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 11th, 2010-02:10
I found this drawing over the Cal 914 in the Manufacture’s book of timepieces. Is it shown with the gong placed similar like mine and JML’s watch. Best Blomman...

Thanks for sharing, Blomman

 By: Goh : April 11th, 2010-05:39
It is a rare beauty indeed, one of a kind with manual winding and the mesmerising sapphire case back. I always regret not getting one when it was available because I wanted to wait for one on bracelet. Goh

To bad, Goh…

Wow Stefan!

That’s two very nice vintage watches, congrats! Would love to read reports on them! Especially how the Vulcan dial works. Best Blomman

About the blue box…

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 11th, 2010-08:12
As you can see on the photos, it’s more of a handbag then a box. Very uncharacteristic with other boxes from that time. This one is from 2002. The one I think most of us are used too is the blue box. This one is from 2004. But JLC was doing some changes t...

Actually, I much prefer the box of your Master Memo black

 By: amanico : April 11th, 2010-08:57
You can store your watch, you cal also put in in the " leather wallet " when you travel... Brilliant. Confirm please, but you can store the papers of your watch in the blue box? Best, and many thanks, Blomman. Nicolas

Confirm..!

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 11th, 2010-09:06
Yes, there is a zip-lock pocket on the inside of the bag for the papers. If you look at the inside photo; to the left you see the zip-lock. The blue part to the right is a pocket for the watch. Best Blomman

Thanks, Blomman...

What are we doing with our watches? We wear them, we travel with them, and if we take more than one watch, where do we put them? So, a light packaging you could let in your house, with a leather wallet for the papers and the watch you bring with you would...
