I have been bitten by the IWC bug lately and first collected a YG DaVinci perpetual calendar. Then I added 2 Portugieser watches, including a beautiful Yacht Club SS/RG combi. I was happy with my choice of IWC watches, but felt that no IWC collection woul...

Iโ€™m no expert but great choice as I love the 5002 as well.

The Transitional model was introduced late 2005 in Europe and has a 3Hz movement

You must have the original 2.5Hz model. As to the crown, IWC replaced them during service due to a dispute they had at one point. You can now request a fish crown if you send your watch for service to IWC. watchesbysjx.com

Great watch!

I agree, IWC and pilot go hand in handโ€ฆ they do it as well as anyone else. I recently picked up this version. Cheers ...

Yes, I do remember your beautiful pilot.

In fact, seeing yours is what started me on my search for a pilot watch, although I ended up with a different one. I am glad to be a member of the IWC pilot-watch club.

We are glad to have you. IWC is a great watch brand.

That's why IWC makes the 43 mm version...๐Ÿ˜‰ ...

To be tried, for sure

There are indeed lots of watches we can't go wrong with, and this is one.

I like that your date window has bronzed a bit.

 By: roundel : August 31st, 2021-01:38
That is something I think only the early dials did.

I never noticed that.

You have a good eye for such details.

I too have an early 5002 with a bronzed date window

I think it adds a great flavor to the dial. ...

Are you guys sure it's not the lighting or camera?

By: India Whiskey Charlie : September 3rd, 2021-18:46
Mine is still 100% silver/chrome. To the naked eye more so than in the pictures. ...

Early examples did patina.

Interesting!

By: India Whiskey Charlie : September 5th, 2021-17:12
Mine is an early 5002 purchased in 2003 as soon as they became available in the US. I just went and looked at older pictures from various years and didn't see any patina. So, either mine was not early enough or the dial may have been changed during a serv...

Thanks, and the same to you too!
