What I can find so far tells me that IWC produced a total of 4320 of the Cal 972 movements between 1967 and 1973.
"Precise records" were not kept of how they were cased, but the trends were towards precious metals at the time, current estimates are ~600 in stainless steel in some combination of finishes.
