Tourbillon Trilogy- 6 Directions in 4 Dimensions?

After the launching of the world?s first double-axis tourbillon pocketwatch at the Basel show 2003, Prescher follows with a triple world premier in 2004: a boxed wristwatch set containing a triple, double and a single axis tourbillon all built by one master watchmaker- a feat never before seen in Switzerland or elsewhere. The triple axis tourbillon of this set is the world?s very first triple axis tourbillon wristwatch. The third premiere, hitherto unknown, is that each tourbillon- single, double and triple- has been constructed with a remontoire or constant force mechanism constructed within the tourbillon?s carriage. This required exceptional finesse on a micromechanical level, especially in view of the fact that all the axes involved are of the flying tourbillon type. Visually, the use of these flying axes mean that the view of the tourbillon is uncluttered by additional bridges, which creates the impression that it is almost ?floating? in the watch movement.

The inspiration for this project was Thomas Prescher?s fascination with the previous research in double and triple axis tourbillons first expostulated by Randall and Good in the 1970?s for use in large carriage clocks. From his first years of apprenticeship through to his master watchmaker?s diploma, Prescher had already begun to research the required methods for making these concepts suitable for application in a wristwatch, which has taken until 2004 to reach complete realization.

Each of the three different watches in the set, all of platinum, have an unmistakable shape that visually accentuates and complements their function: single axis tourbillon in carr?e, double axis tourbillon in carr?e cambr?e and the triple axis with the perfection of the circle. Hand guilloch? silver dials, of a newly designed and custom-made pattern allow a large opening to view each different tourbillon, with separate sub-dials for the hours and minutes. The view of the back of the movement shows a unique hand engraved embellishment inspired by the concept of Geneva stripes, but is specially designed to complement the unique dial.

Congratulations Thomas!

Concept of the Tourbillon - Trilogie

Dear Magnus, Since the Tourbillon Trilogy was designed from the outset as a complete set of three tourbillon types, it was possible to determine the exact placement of the tourbillon and sub-dials fitting to the 3 different case shapes. Keeping this place...
