Clockwise indicator of the day of the month around the perimeter; counter-clockwise indicator of the month in "sub-dial" at 12:00; counter-clockwise indicator of day of the week (and day/night) in "sub-dial" at 6:00 (you decide where it starts and ends).

and how it works. Getting used to the mix of counter-clockwise and clockwise indications is a small challenges when you are new with the watch, though. But I enjoy the process of getting to terms with this piece! Paul Gerber showed me the 'naked' calender...
