These seem, to me at least, to be the up-to-date equivalents of the collectors pieces in the PP museum in Geneva. They're no longer timepieces, or the timepiece has become secondary, and they're more a pure expression of the engineer's skill (or the enamel artist, or the goldsmith or whoever...). They're almost self-indulgent masterpieces that can only exist when the market is in a particular phase.
