Paul Gerber's Ref. 420 DT
Years ago I bought one of Paul Gerber’s Model 42 Pilot version watches. Considering the triple rotor winding system, I wondered if I could use it like, well, a “sports” watch…use it while doing whatever. Mr. Gerber said sure, and then delivered the watch with a rubber strap. Over the years I often used the watch for weeks and sometimes for months, swimming, working, whatever. No problems. I usually don’t set the dates on my watches anymore, but the date display on the model 42 is large enough for my tired eyes to easily see and the quick set mechanism makes it easy to turn through a few weeks of dates in a few seconds. Nice watch.
Several years ago I passed the Pilot watch on to another collector. I’m a fan of dual time watches and I had the idea that I would replace it with the dual time version of the Model 42. Well I finally got around to it and recently received my Ref. 420 DT, also delivered with a rubber strap. The chronometer grade ETA movement is within a few seconds per day. Nice watch.
