Paul Gerber prototype clock with Riefler escapement

This is a prototype clock that Paul built. He recreated a unique escapement from images in the book: “Riefler-Prazisionspendeluhren: 1890 -1965”. Clemens Riefler was a German company that produced high grade clocks between 1890 and 1965. Sigmund Riefler was an instrument maker who invented a unique pendulum escapement in 1889 that was used in observatory-grade clocks.

Paul wasn’t happy, however, with the accuracy of the escapement in this particular type of clock. Instead Paul plans to install his own “Paul Gerber escapement” so that the clock, in Paul’s words, “… not only looks beautiful, but also runs well and accurately”.

I think it will be the perfect piece to display Paul’s unique escapement and demonstrate his long love of clocks.
